shifting the trust all the way down to what you find acceptable has got to be good enough for you. On Linux systems you could use your own DNS resolver. Pretty sure Fedora was one of the first to do this with DNS Caching. You could maybe set up your own self hosted DNS server. Maybe even on bare metal

the Fediverse has always been a "safe space" for people with emotional damage. If you're the kind of person who is curious and willing to challenge opinions in some attempt to learn something more, you may get lashed out at for being "ignorant" and making "your learning their problem."

Honestly when you catch a whiff of this, let them be wrong and move on. You'll have more peace. If they don't want to be challenged it's their problem.
