Bitcoin is indisputably the world’s premier Store of Value, but we are hitting a friction point in its evolution as a Medium of Exchange.

Technically, Bitcoin + Lightning is the superior payment rail: it’s faster, cheaper, and eliminates the "chargeback" risk that plagues legacy merchants. Yet, the ground reality remains: most merchants still only accept fiat, and those who do accept BTC often see it account for less than 1% of their revenue.

Why the gap?
In my opinion, the bottleneck isn't the tech—it's us. Most Bitcoiners are focused solely on "HODLing," effectively keeping the best medium of exchange locked in a vault. For Bitcoin to win the $32.9 Trillion retail market, we have to start using the plumbing we’ve built.

What's the solution?
Most of us still earn in fiat, which means the bridge to a Bitcoin standard starts with a deliberate habit. My recommendation for every Bitcoiner is simple: send a fixed amount of every paycheck directly to your on-chain wallet for long-term savings, but move the bulk of your "spendable" liquidity into your Lightning wallet for daily essentials like groceries.

Apps like Bringin (npub1krv…d3py) are perfect for this—they allow you to seamlessly bridge your Euro accounts with Lightning rails, making it easy to off-ramp exactly what you need for daily costs while keeping the rest in your sovereign control.

This mirrors the discipline I saw in the 80s and 90s. My mother used to budget her physical cash for the week; every time she spent less than planned, those extra bills went straight into a piggy bank. Over time, that "spare" cash accumulated until she could buy new furniture or other essentials.

Funny compilation 😂. Personally I completely agree that there is nothing better than Bitcoin. Both as a store of value and as a medium of exchange. In practice I however notice that bitcoin is only still accepted by a very small number of merchants currently. And if you can't pay with bitcoin it is now often converted to fiat to enable day to payments. It has proven really difficult to convince merchants like supermarkets, gasoline stations, etc. to start accepting bitcoin. They simply don't understand, and if they slightly do, their conclusion is that bitcoin as an asset is too volatile. They want price stability. That is where stablecoins come in. With protocols like taproot assets these can be minted on the best blockchain which is Bitcoin. No need for Ethereum, Solana or any other 'shitcoin' blockchain.

That's approximately 18 euro with today's value

I slightly disagree. Having stablecoins minted on Bitcoin via protocols like Taproot Assets or RGB, which are native to Bitcoin, will actually benefit the Bitcoin Network in both the short and long term. Most important reason is human psychology. The transition for any small business owner to start accepting stablecoin payments as an alternative to traditional card payments is way easier to achieve than having to start accepting bitcoin directly. The step from stablecoin payment acceptance to direct bitcoin payments acceptance is the logical next step. And even if they don't eventually start accepting direct bitcoin payments, they are using bitcoin as the settlement layer without even knowing it. It will therefore enable more and easier bitcoin acceptance by merchants, create more revenue for lightning channels and it's node runners, create more revenue for the miners, create more bitcoin awareness, and more adoption of bitcoin, etc. This will enable true Bitcoin businesses (including node runners) to grow, which in turns creates less dependency on fiat.

I first created my profile back in February 2025, but after a long hiatus, I’ve only recently dove back in. Now that I’m active again, one thing is crystal clear: Technically, Nostr is superior to any other social media platform out there.

However, we have a hurdle to clear. 🚧

Right now, most posts are still too technical for the average person. I truly believe we’ll only get the best out of this protocol when it becomes the go-to place for real life—sharing holidays, day-to-day experiences, family photos, and great articles. We need to use it with the same ease we use Twitter, Instagram, or LinkedIn. 📸🌍

My big hope for 2026? That businesses finally wake up to Nostr. It is, hands down, the best way to create authentic brand awareness without the "middleman" algorithms.

On January 3, 2009, Satoshi Nakamoto didn't just mine the first coins; they left a permanent, immutable message to the world: "The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks." For many, this is the "declaration of war" against banking. But as we stand in 2026, exploring the eCash Renaissance and the potential for banks to become Mints or Guardians, we must ask a difficult question:

"Was Satoshi against the existence of banks, or was he against the systemic failure of banks that required the theft of public funds to survive?"

The Core Problem: The Burden of Trust

In the Bitcoin Whitepaper, Satoshi identifies the "root problem" not as banks themselves, but as the trust required to make them work. He wrote: "The root problem with conventional currency is all the trust that's required to make it work. The central bank must be trusted not to debase the currency, but the history of fiat currencies is full of breaches of that trust."

Satoshi’s stand was not necessarily that "banks are evil," but that "Trusted Third Parties are security holes." The Genesis Block was a critique of a specific system—the fractional reserve cycle that leads to inevitable bailouts.

Would Satoshi Support "Bank-Guardians"?

If we propose a world where banks act as eCash Mints or Guardians, are we undoing Satoshi’s work? Not necessarily.

When Hal Finney—Satoshi’s first peer—envisioned "Bitcoin Banks" in 2010, he saw them as a scaling necessity. He believed that while L1 was the base, people would eventually use digital cash backed by BTC.

The key difference between a 2008 Bank and a 2026 eCash Guardian lies in the Terms of Trust:

No More Bailouts: In an eCash system, a Mint is either solvent or it isn't. You cannot "bail out" a Mint with a printing press.

Audit over Faith: As I’ve discussed before, the new "Basel-like Standards" for Bitcoin allow for cryptographic Proof of Reserves. We no longer have to "believe" a bank has the money; we can verify it.

Privacy as a Right: Unlike legacy banks that act as surveillance arms for the state, eCash Mints use blinded signatures to ensure the bank cannot see your transactions.

Satoshi was a pragmatist. He knew that to change the world, the new system had to be better than the old one—not just morally, but technically. By building a system where Mathematics replaces Bailouts, Satoshi gave us a choice.

If a bank chooses to become an eCash Mint or Guardian, they are effectively "surrendering" to the Bitcoin standard. They are trading their ability to create money out of thin air for the ability to manage Digital Capital with integrity.

Verdict: The End of the "Blind Trust" Era

The Genesis Block was the "Birth Certificate" of a new era. It wasn't just an end to the "Chancellor’s bailouts"; it was an end to Blind Trust.

Whether a Guardian is a local community leader or a 100-year-old Swiss bank, the Satoshi Standard remains the same: Don’t Trust, Verify. If the bank can prove its reserves and protect user privacy through eCash, it is no longer the "security hole" Satoshi warned us about—it is an ally in the Hyperbitcoinization of the world.

I’ll admit it: I joined Snapchat yesterday. Yes, it’s a centralized giant, but when your kids are there and want to show you the "magic" of photo filters, you follow the fun.

It started with a long-running joke in our house. I’m always telling my kids they need to do their chores because "no dwarfs come to clean the house at night while everyone sleeps." Well, being an early bird, I cleaned the house yesterday before anyone was up.

When one of my daughters woke up, I told her the cleaning dwarfs had finally arrived. Her immediate reaction? "Dad, let’s take a picture with the dwarf filter and send it to Mom to prove they exist!" 😂📸

It was a great moment, but it got me thinking: When will we see native filters in Nostr apps? We are building the most advanced social protocol in history, but sometimes we just want to look like cleaning dwarfs to make our families laugh. Does a Nostr client already support this, or are we still waiting for a dev to "Orange Pill" the Snapchat experience? 🍊💊

I’ve seen some bold moves in the Bitcoinverse, but this one takes the cake. Just spotted an account on Nostr— PhoenixWallet (npub148q…jra7) —trying to sell its private keys for a cool 1 #Bitcoin.

The funny part? Generating a new nsec and npub is completely free. But even funnier? This account actually has nearly 300 followers despite having zero notes! It’s the ultimate proof that many people follow a name without even checking if there’s a human (or any content) behind it.

Gotta give it to them for trying to monetize the "Follower FOMO." That is some high-level optimism right there! 🚀

Maybe they think those 292 silent followers are worth 100 million sats? Either way, it’s a great reminder that on Nostr, you don't need to buy your seat at the table—you just generate it. 🛠️⚡️

Starting the week with a full heart and a clear focus.

Yesterday was a special one—I took the family to watch the Ajax Vrouwen. My youngest daughter, who just started her own football journey this season, got to walk onto the pitch alongside the pro players for her "TV moment"! 🏟️⚽️

She was joined by six of her teammates, and seeing that spark of inspiration in their eyes was a powerful reminder of why we build: to create a world where the next generation can dream big and have the tools to achieve it.
