Monday-running-club-day! It was really hot so after strength training and run-schooling the trainer promised us short intervals. From start/finish we ran (not to fast) for 45 seconds. At the point where you ended up after 45 sec everyone had to drop their own marker (for me that was around 125m). And then return in 90 seconds. Then the start line was recessed by 10 meter and again you had 45 sec to reach your marker and 90 sec to return. And again the start line was recessed 10m.... So each round the distance grew while the time remained the same...🥵
We did 7 rounds.

Monday-running-club-day. Today is remembrance day for those who paid the highest price defending our freedom. So during the training at 8.00 pm we took a 2 minute break in silence. After that the interval training was three times 3x2 minutes at 90-95% hfmax with 1 minute jog in between 🥵.

Monday-running-club-day 😁. In preparation of the race in 2 weeks (15, 21 or 42k) there were long intervals (2x12 minutes at race pace) with an end sprint (2 min at 10k pace and 1 minute at 5k pace). It was really cold but luckily the rain had just stopped when we started.

they must be skilled with the overhanging fallen tree! Can remove the rider from the bike.... Here they tend to leave fallen trees on walking paths in order to prevent bikers from taking it. There are specified mountainbike trails, where you're not supposed to walk.

With today's run I passed the 1.000 km this year. I am pleased that it worked out even though december brought me only 40 km so far. The past weeks I had to cut seriously down on volume because of pain in the left knee, I have had an infection and I had to work a lot. I try to listen to my body so I cancelled my plans for building up to marathon distance before 2026. It will come next year. I'm happy to enjoy the cold weather (love running in <10°C).

Very nice weather, 7°C, a little bit of wind and partly clouded. So I got out there again. Everything fine until km 17, then my left leg decided it was enough and started aching. So after that it became a run-walk-run home. Maybe I should have the knee checked out, apparently even though it is not painful it influences my posture.

Today was a moderately distanced trail in the 'Engbertsdijkvenen', a moor close by where I live. Due to the weather I encountered more animals 🐂🐐🦅🪿 than other people, wich is very nice.

It's easy until it's not (Lazarus Lake). That is so true for #trailrunning . The first 10k were promising, a steady 6:30-6:50 min/km and sunny weather. Than came the sandpits and despite we 'only' had 225m EG on the total course, it felt like the Mont Blanc 🥵. So the final 10k there was a serious decline in performance (7:30-9:00/km), but with some walking breaks I reached the finish just 5 minutes before closing 😅.

Every time I pass the statue of dr. Schaepman, I have to go up there and touch the base. It's also the highest point on my route and a nice moment for a snack. The rest of the trail route was nice and quiet. Most sandy roads are turning into dust due to the lack of rain the past weeks.
The plan was 20k, but coming home and seeing 20,5k on the watch was unbearable. So I added 600m 😁

Germany has also 'wunderschönen' trails to run. Directly from campsite (borderland-camping) I got 250 m EG in 12.7k. Some nice trails, some covered with small bushes and nettles some steep and some easy. It bit of all, very enjoyable.

Went for some reward cake afterwards.

No running today, and probably also not for the next weeks 😥. I keep having pains in the right leg, ankle, calve, knee. I'm afraid it's some sort of shin splints. The past 2 weeks I seriously decreased my distances and speed, but it is not enough. Monday I will talk to my trainer and see what his advice will be. From what I read it comes down to rest, stretching, building strength and gradually starting to run again.

This is more my mind of scenery to run in. Back home in Twente again. Borderline run in Springendal (valley of natural wells) and 'dal van de Mosbeek' (Mossbrook valley). Took a few tracks into Germany, no border control in the woods.
I set the target in time-on-feet today because my calves were a bit stiff and somewhat painful. So 2:30h it was.

Today my run took me along the Donau river to the World Athletics Championship Stadium in Budapest. To my surprise the upper ring is freely accessible as training area! There's a 600m round track and several training devices along the side. Places to sit, some devices for children to play on and even toilets. Since it was 25°C outside the shade was very welcome. This is a thing they do really good here, public facilities, parks, tracks, playground

Easter training at the running club. We did a team challenge (ladder, through a hoop, skipping, over obstacles, through the sandpit and under a stick (at 1.50 m), but all the time holding a spoon with an egg on it 🤣. Dropping the egg meant 2 burpees for the whole team.
After that it was 6x800m at 5.00 /km, 30 secs of rest in between.

Yes! A new personal best at 10k. I started way back (section H) so I had to overtake a lot of people. It was warm and windy but luckily I could keep up a pace of around 5' /km. And the final 2 k it's all or nothing 😅. Lots of people along the course, shouting encouraging stuff. With my name on the bib it's easy 'come on Johan!...you can do it !...nearly there!...
And afterwards celebrating with colleagues 🍻.

Final run before the #ijsselloop . Just sniffed a little bit at race speed, otherwise easy run. My trainer thinks I should be able to run 10k in 50 minutes, so that's the goal for this weekend.

I've grown to like running very much, especially trail running. Being outside and in nature 🌳🌲 is so nice. So being able to do that again is a reward for the effort.

Today is a glorious day! Not only because of the weather (cold but dry with a little sunshine ⛅) but merely because I did a proper trail run again for the first time since my accident (November 9th). Not counting the also glorious 'Chariots of fire'-try out on the beach a few weeks back. It felt great to be out in the woods again. Also testing my new running vest (Osprey Duro6) and the navigation on my #garmin Very pleased with the accuracy.

Track training at the running club again. After the warming up and some exercises the main course was 600 m and 700 m intervals. All in all it added up to 10 k. Now for a hot shower and something to eat.
