I will be graduating with a BS in Materials Science and Engineering in a few short months. I chose this path because of the interest in nanomaterials (carbon nanotubes, more specifically) I developed in high school. While in school, I got a job working in a nanomaterials research lab, where I became associate manager (until I quit today!).<br/><br/>Through working in research for nearly four years and reading research for five years, I have come to think research and research publishing could benefit from change. It is in my goals this year to learn to code and build what I see as the solution to the issues with research, and share that here with y’all.<br/><br/>One of my main goals at the moment is to find a job for when I graduate. I’m really interested in moving to the Austin or Houston areas. However, I recognize that I am at the mercy of life and the opportunities I encounter. One of the issues I have with social media is that it needs to be used; companies are motivated to keep you on their platform for as much time as possible so they can sell more ads. They keep you on by constant entertainment. I wonder about the long term effects of this. How are people changing because they are constantly being entertained at no other cost than their time? Can social media serve a greater purpose than entertaining? Perhaps nostr can be built in a way that motivates connection.
