The man has a certificate, issued to him under the terms of the GRA, that says he is a woman. That’s how he was able to be a resident in a women’s refuge. He is a fit, well-built man in his thirties. His victim, also a resident in the refuge, was a 60-year-old woman of slight stature. Prior to the passing of the GRA, that woman could have reasonably expected to be safe from male violence when she was living in a women’s refuge. Not anymore.

>At the man’s subsequent trial and conviction for assault, the court heard how he had beaten his victim to the ground, sat upon her, punched her repeatedly to the head and ripped clumps of hair from her scalp. (He got a three month suspended sentence.)

*Technically* all of these except #13 - there was no Blockbuster in my area. I did, however, occasionally rent a videotape from a local venue. So...in a way, *all of these*.

I've had long hair since it first grew in as a child. It's comb, braid & go for me. I have always been disinclined to having a "hairdo". Too much fuss & expense over something not terribly important.

But I *often* like the look of short hair on other women. There are women who are *so* beautiful or interesting-looking that the shortest hair highlights their best features.

Yes, the presentation surely was choppy, but I stuck with it, and came away with much food for thought.

I don't know how other women want to deal with positions taken by those women with whom we do not agree, but I choose to keep our most essential issues front & center. *I don't expect to agree with every woman on every issue*. And while I may express some criticism with how some women express themselves, or disagree with a certain point of view, I try not to spend my energy getting angry or spouting vitriol at them. "Standing with women", for me, means putting differences aside in order to advocate for all of us.

But when affirming and validating means going against the evidence of one’s own eyes and ears, then it becomes harmful. Sex recognition is a primal animal instinct that is engrained in all animals. Infants as young as 9 days old can distinguish between the sexes. Having a high-functioning safeguarding impulse relies on being able to trust one’s instincts. Any practice of behavior that is counter-instinctual creates dissociation and dissonance and dulls the instinctive response system. Our responsibility to ourselves is to stay grounded in reality, the primacy of our senses, and to trust our body’s signals. Teaching kids to deny these signals is a safeguarding failure.

>Inclusion also sounds like a wonderful value, and it is if you’re talking about inviting all the kids in your 3rd-grade class to your birthday. But when it comes to safeguarding boundaries are needed. And boundaries are necessarily exclusive. When boys are taught they are entitled to violate girls’ boundaries when it comes to their privacy in intimate spaces, it teaches them to practice predatory and abusive behavior. And when girls are taught by teachers and school boards that their boundaries around their bodies don’t matter, it teaches them that there is no one to turn to to help them uphold their boundaries. It teaches them to dissociate and deny their own discomfort in order to emotionally support boys. This is the opposite of healthy bodily autonomy, authority, and boundaries. This creates a vulnerability to future predation. This teaches them to accept abuse and become the caretaker of their abuser.

I spent a couple of days with a Women's Community, near the Catskills in the late 1970s, to do a performance of a Feminist theatrical piece I put together. These women's lives were full, living with respect & simplicity, because they wanted to feel a connection to each other & the Earth. Building & repairing things themselves. (I *must* mention the *huge* record collection of *only women* performers; the first time I heard Alix Dobkin). Their example stayed with me. They are still my teachers, decades later. This is why I am motivated to live as simply as possible, to acquire things second-hand rather than new, etc.

Eco-Feminists saw the connection between how the Earth & Women's Bodies are treated. No people, place or thing is *sacred* when it comes to PROFIT. If the the "powers that be" want YOU, what's on your land, or what you have *they will just take it*. Land-theft is happening *all over the world*, today. And *women's voices are always among the loudest pushing back* against the insanity of it.

I think "word problems" in math are *exactly used* to test both reading comprehension *and* math - which is not at all a bad thing. Also, to show math is useful in our lives. I just personally disliked combining words & numbers, *especially in a test!* Arg! It made my head hurt. I'd rather solve for "X" in a polynomial.
