Today is our last day on the Atlassian suite of products. I am so happy. The price gouging, the overall decline in quality - replaced by newer tools that do the extra things that JIRA and Confluence do at a premium.

Some of the things that Atlassian make you pay a premium for include SSO, (not the only ones out there but no need for a product sold B2B), and you know... the ability to backup and restore YOUR data.

i was quite surprised to discover that no one had registered deleteduser [dot] com, and was curious to see how many emails i'd get if i registered it, assuming many orgs 'delete' logic probably just overwrote the email address with blahblah@deleteduser.com or similar.

The answer, is at least 3 different orgs in the hour that I've owned that domain and been listening for email.

And yes, all of those emails contain the actual PII of the person who has been 'deleted' :-D

2010, in the midst of the troublesome icelandic volcano, i’m at seatac boarding a flight back to LHR.

at the time of departure, LHR had actually just had to close again due to the ash, but it was expected to clear in time for arrival, so the captain announced that we’d depart, the intention would be to go to heathrow, but if it didnt reopen as planned, they were carrying extra contingency fuel to either hold or go somewhere else.

In several pen tests I've done across the last 18 months, one of the most interesting trends has been the sudden increase in the number of examples I've found of people who have thrown those API keys, and in some cases raw data, into accidentally public GitHub repos while attempting to glue AI to things to 'see what it can do'.

Few weeks ago I found a GitHub repo that a developer had trained on a dump of their own corporate emails, and all those emails where just in public, on Github, and contained lots of things like vendor SFTP creds. It's a free for all.

If a government official gives a statement that is easily disproven by multiple angles of high quality video, it is ok, encouraged even, to call them out on it in real time. That's called doing a journalism.

This is super cool, the Washington State Ferries posted this today on their various social accounts:

"The M/V Tacoma was recently taken out of service due to a stern tube seal issue. Thurs. (1/8), Global Diving installed an underwater habitat on the vessel. It was sealed to the hull & around the propulsion shaft. By pressurizing the habitat w/ air, crews removed water from the area.

This created a dry repair environment. It allows repairs to be made to the damaged seal w/o requiring the vessel to be dry-docked. Global Diving is working in coordination w/ our maintenance teams to complete repairs & return Tacoma to service as safely & quickly as possible."

Really clever. Wouldn't want to be the one working in there myself, but each to their own.

Check out this SendGrid account phishing message I received today.

The email claims that SendGrid will be adding a 'Support ICE' link to every email sent via their platform.

Of course 99.99% of orgs would want to opt-out if it were real, so this is an incredible lure to get SendGrid creds.

Also, if the bad guys are using opting out of supporting your organization as a lure, you know you done fucked up.

"Sure," he said, typing furiously on his mechanical keyboard, and not breaking eye contact with monitor.

"That firewall rule you put in for me a month or so ago, you remember that one?"

"Yep," He replied, the percussive keys still click clacking away.

"You can remove or disable that rule, we don't need it anymore, we stopped testing that software."

The keystrokes abruptly stopped. Silence filled the office for the first time that day.

"Everything ok?" She asked.

At this point he was looking down at his LED backed keys, but he managed to pluck up the courage turn and face her. They made eye contact for the first time since the start of their conversation.

A single tear rolled down his face.

"Whats wrong?!" She exclaimed, now concerned she had accidentally unearthed some deeply buried emotion.

"Nothings wrong, everything is fine" he was quick to reassure her, grabbing a tissue to wipe away the tear. "It's just, it's... that's the first time anyone has ever said that to me."

"Said what?" She enquired, genuinely confused.

"Said I can remove or disable a firewall rule, and I've been doing this for 25 years," the tears were flowing faster now. "It was just a beautiful moment."
