This waterfall as far as I know, has no name. I say that because this waterfall is man made on the side of a road at the Waikoloa Village golf club in Waikoloa Village.
Some people might say that this has a lesser value or meaning because it is man made. But to me that just devalues the beauty that man is able to create.

This is the entrance to Heitz Cellars. The palm line the driveway up to an evergreen all while being surrounded by grape vines.

Between the Rows

People it seems are drawn to order. Check the right box, everything in its place, so on and so forth.
Turns out that maybe nature needs order. The grape vines are manicured, primped, and trimmed to produce the best, highest quality grape with acceptable yields. There is a balance there but I think it's safe to say that the farmers in the Napa Valley have this pretty much figured out.

I love playing with this particular subject. The boat has been slowing deteriorating for as long as I can remember. I first shot this boat a few years ago and tend to stop every time I go out to Point Reyes.
I removed the color from the boat so that I could isolate it against the green rolling hills and the blue sky of the Marin County countryside.

I found a group of Calla Lillies growing outside the Napa Mill. Normally when I find these beautiful flowers they show some signs of heat damage with some blackening on the outside edge of the flower. These particular lilies were perfect. The flower grows from a thick stem and has a rough resemblance of the horn of a trumpet.
These flowers are native to South Africa.

This image was taken during the middle of winter here in Northern California. We had a cold snap that had left a layer of frost on the ground for a few days and I really wanted to capture it as this is about as close as we will ever get to having snow on the ground. I drove up in the early morning to catch the day before the sun had started warming the ground.

I do visit the wineries on a fairly regular basis and I try to get to know the owners and employees so I can walk their fields and shoot the vineyards. This works out well for both of us as I promote their industry and they provide me with some wonderful photo ops.

Cascade Creek Under the Bridge

Once again another image of my private little spot in Yosemite National Park.
It's obviously not my private spot but it seems secluded enough. I've never seen anyone else down here. I guess it's just a matter of luck as there is a well worn unofficial hiking trail down to this spot. The trail is steep but the tree roots work well as steps down.

This is a capture of a working fishing boat docked in Noyo Harbor in Ft Bragg California. Ft Brag is roughly 3-1/2 hours north of San Francisco and may as well be in another world. This is an area that started out as a lumber town, the town was owned basically by the lumber company. Once most of the redwoods in the area were cut down the area morphed into a fishing village.

Mt Shasta is one of many volcanic peaks in California and is at the southern end of the Cascade Range. At 14, 179 feet it is also the second highest peak in the cascade range.
Captured on a drive into California from Southern Oregan. The sky was clear for hundreds of miles except for this large cloud that seemed to get hung up on the peak of the mountain.

Captured from the Stoneman Bridge in Yosemite Valley. The snow had coated all of the branches in a nice layer of white and the flat light muted almost all of the other color that was left under the snow. I really like how the river was still enough to cast a nice deep reflection of the trees lining the edge. The tree near center caught my attention with the way it curved outward.

The Saguaro Cactus captured in the desert north of Phoenix Arizona.
Spent a few days in Phoenix visiting family. My brother and I went out into the desert as I wanted to explore the area.
The timing was perfect as you can tell, the overcast skies kept the temperatures down in the mid 70's allowing us to explore the desert without coming down with heat stroke.

Hawaiian Sunset

Was fortunate enough to spend some time in Hawaii this year. Something I would recommend everyone do at least once in their life.
We spent most of our time swimming, snorkeling and sightseeing.
I could have sat here all night except that the sun did set and we on to the local watering hole.
Just love all the colors that come through with the light, aqua, deep orange and bright yellows.

Pacific Paradise

I captured this image on the big island of Hawaii at Waikoloa Beach.
We had been body surfing in the ocean all morning getting pounded by waves and burned by the sun. We stopped at a local bar on the beach and met some friends afterwards. We passed this on the way in and I knew I wanted to capture this on the way out. So of course I spent some time and this is the result.

One of my favorite times of the year to drive through/around Napa Valley is during the fall season.
The grapes have been picked and the weather is cooling. The grape vines start shutting down, preparing them for the cold wet winter. As they do this the grape vines take on an amazing shade of yellow that just pops when the sun is hitting low in the sky.

After waking up at a foggy Bodega Bay campground I walked out towards the beach and came across this bench hidden on the tall beach grass. The empty bench, the fog, the tall grass, the waves crashing in the distance, all seemed to reflect the empty feeling that had come over me on this summer morning.
We left the ocean a day early and found nice warm summer weather 70 miles inland.

I spent a week out at the Snowbird Resort near Salt Lake City.
On the way to the resort it started snowing. The next morning there was at least 4 feet of powder snow on the ground. So much snow they closed most of the runs for avalanche control. After 2 days we were able to finally ski the summit. This was captured at the summit looking across the Rocky Mountains.

One of my passions that I have had since I was a young boy has been skiing. I learned on the small hills in the Midwest but have been skiing the Sierras and the Rocky Mountains for the last 35 years.
This was a man made avalanche as Snowbird ski resort ski patrol worked diligently to keep the mountain safe. A series of detonations at the top of a cornice set this one off.

There are 308 stairs that lead down to the lighthouse and the lighthouse is 37 feet above sea level. The Point Reyes Lighthouse is the windiest and foggiest on the west coast. The station is often blanketed by weeklong periods of fog.
This particular overlook is also very popular with whale watchers. Spring and fall are the best time to see whales here.

When we started out across the bridge it was sunny and fairly warm.
At midspan the fog started rolling in. By the time we had reached the north tower the fog had engulfed most of the bridge. Looking south the fog is so thick that the bridge seemed to disappear into the fog.

I've spent many hours at the bottom of Yosemite Falls watching as the water crashes down onto the rocks and boulders at the base of the falls.
This was the first time that I was able to see the rainbow at the very bottom of the lower falls. In the foreground you can see hints of green in the mist fading to yellow giving the appearance of a glow coming out of the mist.

One thing you will never see on a busy summer day in Yosemite Valley is the frozen beard that develops over night as the mist from the falls gets blown against the granite and freezes against the side of the cliffs that make up Yosemite Valley.
Another thing that you may never see in the summer is an empty hiking path to the base of Yosemite Falls.

In the springtime the dogwoods along the Merced River bloom in large white flowers and the river serves a wonderful backdrop for these beautiful flowers.

Waterfall in Black and White

Wildcat Falls is a small waterfall located off of highway 140 in Yosemite National Park. The fall is relatively unknown as the lower portion of the falls is tucked in behind some trees and because there are not any formal hiking trails leading up to it.
This view, now, is forever obstructed by a large boulder that fell from higher elevations.

On the left of this image is the base of El Capitan. El Capitan is a granite monolith and is one of the parks major attractions.

Bridalveil Falls in Yosemite Valley is one of many major waterfalls throughout Yosemite National Park. Although not as tall as Yosemite Falls this waterfall is one of my favorites.
Less than a third as tall as Yosemite Falls, Bridalveil Falls is generally the first major waterfall seen as you drive into Yosemite Valley.

Sunken Boat In Noyo Harbor

The first time that I shot this boat was back in 2012. At that time it was still floating.
In 2017 this boat was a casualty of the heavy rainstorms we had in Northern California. As I approached I couldn't see the boat, that is until I was a little closer to the edge of the river where I saw that it had sunk. Now it seems to have taken on a new life.

There is certainly a joy living near one of the most famous wine growing areas in the world. A trip to the vineyards is certainly one of them.

The Transamerica Pyramid has been an iconic building ever sine I was a young boy. I recall seeing it on television during a golf tournament sponsored by I believe the Trans America co.
I've seen many photographs of this building but I wanted to do something different. I aligned one of the vertical walls with the edge of my view finder to enhance the look of the angles.

The Point Reyes at Low Tide II

The Point Reyes is a weathered and abandoned boat that sits partially submerged in the calm waters of Tomales Bay. It had been a few years since I was last out to visit here. I was really surprised to see how much more she had decayed. The bow is completely severed now and the hull has finally given way to the weight of the cabin.

I captured this image on a ski trip out to Snowbird in Utah. The Ski Patrol had been working avalanche patrol since I arrived. On the second day there they had set off a controlled explosion on a large cornice starting this avalanche. I was truly amazed at how quickly the snow came down the hill and the power behind it was just amazing. In this image I have his Model A reflecting a C47 in the window. It seemed only proper that I convert the old war plane to a black and white. Duncan has since donated this old war bird to the Travis Air Force Museum.
