I don’t know how to make “me and a third of my friends might be dead” sound less melodramatic, because I know there are people who already roll their eyes at that. As a kid, I wasn’t even looking for queer communities. Being in spaces that didn’t revolve around Catholic shame was enough. I was so paranoid I stopped writing in a physical diary. I probably wouldn’t have ever visited MacStories because OH NO, COMPUTERS??? THAT WAS A BOY THING.

Because I am a jerk, sometimes when I hear someone’s name, trans or cis, in my head I’m like “oh god that’s so stupid.” However, I don’t think I’m a cruel person (and trying to be a better one), so I just use their name.

The (nauseatingly transphobic and) richest man in the world named his kid X Æ A-Xii so let’s all chill.

If you follow me, you already know this, but despite what a lot of media outlets imply, kids are not suddenly mainlining hormones and getting secret surgeries.

I’m not even talking about that whole mess of conspiracies and falsehoods: it just freaks people out that more folks openly explore their gender.

It’s never that they’re worried about kids being ostracized (like my parents were any many still are). It’s just that they don’t want more people to be trans. They think it’s weird, and they want it to stop.

I changed my name multiple times as a kid. In grade school I tried both Lexi and Ali because I wanted kids to stop calling me a dyke.

I still don’t buy that kids are doing this because it’s cool, but again, why would that be bad?
