So I checked. It gets darker. One fact of the Internet is that any website's domain name (for example, "example.com" is a domain name) must be registered before use. This record often known as a WHOIS record allows one to have insights into the website, such as its owner and when it was first registered. Turns out, Canvoos Montreal's domain name was registered only two days ago. Additionally, its website uses generic drawings pulled from Pride organizations in the United States, and seems to be translated into French entirely using Google Translate: in the context of a website, "home" is translated to «accueil>, not «maison»!

Canvoos Montreal anywhere on the internet, nor in the Quebec business registrar; no individuals were mentioned on the conference's website either. This leads me to the obvious conclusion: this is an evolution of the "LGBTI Conference scam" that was first documented in the news last year.

Fake conferences, in the queer context, are non-existent conferences, designed to dupe LGBTI+ activists from the Global South into paying "registration fees" for a non-existent event. The usual formula is an announced conference, whereas activists from the Global South are invited as delegates or speakers, travel expenses covered, but then are made to pay a registration fee, in an unrefundable manner (e.g. Western Union or wire payment). By the time they apply for a visa to visit Canada, it's too late, the conference doesn't exist and they've lost out on their money.

Whilst this scam has been reported by Xtra Magazine last year (https:/nkd. in/ey Ji-bRs), soliciting local queer organizations to endorse such conferences is a new, particularly low way of getting unsuspecting non-profits to participate in such Scams.

Non-profit organizations should be extremely cautious if ever they're invited to be involved with a little-known or otherwise unfamiliar conference. As for individuals invited to unfamiliar conferences, if you're required to pay a registration fee in spite of having travel expenses paid for, that's a massive red flag. If you have good reasons to doubt something's legitimacy, be cautious!

I'm starting to see a bunch more fake engagement booster accounts (and it's why I've moved to reviewing follow requests) months ago.

These accounts:
- Follow a lot more than they are followed,
- Never reply to a post with substance,
- Use AI generated content (art or text),
- Copy other people's posts and reposts them,
- Definitely don't use alt-text, or is lazy about it.

They farm followers with seemingly normal posts, then when it's time to sway public opinion, they start posting shitbait. There are a TON of these accounts on Bluesky.

If you see an account that posts only mediocre content on your feed, you might want to just mute or block them. It's for the collective good.

I think it's a little too seamless. The older HK songs I know that use both Chinese and English are usually just one or two common words, or separated in phrasing.

In a song like this that's so seamless, it's hard to "change the channel" so you're thinking in the right language, especially when it's in a song when you're thinking about the melody as well. This would be much easier to follow in a regular conversation.

- The month after major public pensions and governments buy huge stakes in the AI companies (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc), the US AI bubble will start crashing. This will happen in 2026.

- At this point, free access to LLMs will go away. Corporate LLMs will raise their prices by at least 100x to make up for the loss in users and casual revenue.

- Unfortunately, this^ means AI coding /marketing wouldn't go away. It'd just be far, far more expensive and require deeper approvals. Your boss will have AI and you won't be able to summarize it.

- China and the rest of BRICS will take over the free AI market because they can. Perfect opportunity for propaganda and cyber warfare here.

- Many software products that wrap base commercial models will see their operating costs skyrocket. They'll basically need to rip it all out, or embed a cheaper model.

- Essentially, companies who haven't built out a proper data/AI team will fail unless their base non-AI product is still relevant.

- Small companies will die when they fail to transition out of this mess. There will be a wholesale buyout, like the dot com crash. This means deeper consolidation at the FAANG level.

- We've had essentially an entire generation of juniors who had a cheap/free magical crutch for years. How will you train people to read, write and code again across every industry?

- The costs of cloud services will also skyrocket, since they need to pay off their bullshit AI hardware/data centre investments. We may see a return to on-prem/hybrid IT. (This will be REALLY interesting for how software evolves from the current SaaS model.)

- Some people will start hyping quantum, but we're at least 2+ hype cycles away from that.

- (This one's a wild guess.) The next hype cycle is probably going to be in hardware/wearables/physical space, but that's ridiculously expensive to get into. It'll basically just be marketing.

- The techbro doomers will claim to have predicted this the whole time. They'll have more than enough money to start the next hype cycle for the next round of VC/PE hot potato.

- Western governments are still going to try to implement "AI" even after the crash and the prices go up.

I don't personally believe that regulating models will help. It creates a distraction. What needs protections are human rights and human creations.

What I do like about your proposal is the ownership model for everything we use. I think if we swap out "AI" for "platform", this becomes a nonbrainer.

In Chinese, that's the character for "he", but it was only recently that it was gendered for easier translation with the western world. The female equivalent 她 was created later, but has the same pronunciation. I wonder if it means the same thing as the old definition of 他.
