i like to describe it as like the 4th grade reading level of many newspapers. that doesn't get you a college grad. you can't get to college without passing by 4th grade but you have a lot of work left. but at least if everyone reads at minimum 4th grade, you have a basis for publishing and sharing.

also, if you don't have at least 4th grade level, you already know the critical thing to fix first.

i read my email with xemacs/mh-e, which doesn't previsit links, so doesn't work for tracker links in emails. also lets me see exactly what URL they are trying to get me to click, regardless of how they try to obfuscate it.
