I'm a freelancer (>10 years experience, you stop counting at some point) and can help here (I do a lot of other things too, but I do enjoy helping people learn). I've maintained global infrastructures (multiple continents, high uptime, low fault tolerance, "hybrid cloud", etc), am closely familiar with several CI/CD systems (and have designed some), and am a long-time free software contributor (you are very likely to be running my code right now). I'm based in France and am available for short missions with a preference for small business, but have no certificates (I find those distasteful). I can handle all of the above topics from beginner to principal level, and my education background is appropriate for training. The main issue you might run into is that I'm not very cheap ^^

Difference from lwn: the news is very minimal; essentially giving you the full link to read and the smallest useful summary (e.g. on software release, the headline features; on mailing list drama, the subject of discussion / potential consequences).
Difference from phoronix: applicability is both wider and narrower. No attempt to make money off of it, so news is restricted to news we find interesting ONLY. However it also means it need not be restricted to tech only, multiple feeds per category possible.
Difference from slashdot: the feed is all there is. There’s no website, there’s no comments. There’s an anonymous feed viewer in lieu of a “website” but no long-lasting stuff. Ring buffer of the last 100 posts per feed or whatever keeps a hard cap on costs; the client side can handle persistency of things you want to keep around.
Difference from magasines: no release schedule, you just post when you hear something interesting. Format is closer to lobsters/lemmy anyway.

The idea would be that I build the thing and have a very simple API so I can give people tokens (that have a list of feeds you can post to) and you use a bookmarklet or whatever to make the post. The author is marked in RSS metadata so if someone is seen repeatedly making posts that suck / aren’t interesting / spam (but I don’t believe that one) it can be discussed.

The job is to work on industrial monitoring, specifically in the transport and energy sectors. You will be regularly visiting clients, figuring out what their problems are (not just asking, they're usually resigned to suffer in silence), and finding ways to solve them.

"But I don't like transport, it pollutes the planet." I have great news! Most of the company's clients are moving to electric vehicles now! The energy sector contracts? They want to monitor green energy (currently mostly wind). They go to this company precisely *because* they have more experience with not just thermal engines, but also the funny electrical gizmos (they looked into OCPP back when nobody was using it, for example, and now are ahead of everyone else). If you work in transport, this is one of the places where you can actively contribute to being greener (another example: there are setups to monitor when a vehicle should be recharged, and what kind of driving habits are more economical in practice for electric engines).

"OK, what's the catch?"
You'll have to move (and be allowed to work in) to Versailles, France. If you're already around there (or can otherwise make the trip *regularly*). You'll also have to go to the clients' place of work on the regular. The soft skills aspect is almost *more* important than the technical aspect, and the technical side is quite wide. We don't expect you to be a master of all the technical details, but you should be an expert on at least one of them (you can probably figure out what they are, things like CAN 2.0, etc); otherwise just high-school level understanding of power, electricity. And of course, you gotta not be afraid to open a vehicle up and start digging in - you'll be working with field technicians, garagists, and other technical staff; they need to be able to respect you. Language-wise you must know English and French, and German is greatly appreciated.

The salary range is 35 to 65k EUR, dependent on how many technical aspects you're an expert on (while the soft skill side determines whether you get hired at all).

and you have to keep doing it regularly or it fades away
besides all the ethical concerns (which to me are more than enough, the true cost of this stuff is ridiculous and 99% subsidized), I’ve never seen an LLM produce anything I wouldn’t have been able to do faster AND better myself after all the rounds of review etc (I don’t use them but I have to interact with a lot of LLM generated stuff at work), so I find there to be very little value for the astronomical price
