I was curious to see how the major S&P 500 companies would have performed if their stocks had been denominated in BTC instead of US$. So I vibecoded a web page to find out. Here are the results.

Interestingly, all of the listed companies sharply increased in value against the US dollar over the past five years, but they performed much worse against BTC, signalling a heavy 3-year bear market from 2023 through 2025 (NVIDIA being the sole exception), and now thay are levelling up during the btc bear market.

For now the website is for internal use only, but if there's enough interest, I might deploy it. It works for any SP&500 ticker.

I’m noticing a pattern.

In 1971, President Nixon took the U.S. dollar off the gold standard.

The dollar was no longer backed by gold — only a promise.

By all historical logic, the dollar should have collapsed.

It didn’t.

Why?

Because three years later, Henry Kissinger cut a deal with Saudi Arabia.

The deal was simple:

Sell oil only in U.S. dollars, and the U.S. military will protect the regime.

From that moment on, every country on earth needed dollars to buy energy.

That wasn’t free-market economics.
That was force-backed monetary policy.

Or, more honestly, a protection racket.

And it works — as long as the military can enforce it.

Watch what happens when countries challenge it.

Russia demands rubles for natural gas?
Sanctions. Escalation.

Syria discusses pipelines priced outside the dollar system?
Civil war intensifies. Pipeline never happens.

Iran tries to sell oil outside the dollar?
Decades of sanctions.

I’m not saying these are good governments or bad governments.

I’m saying watch what happens when anyone threatens the petrodollar system.

Once you see it, the pattern isn’t subtle.
SWIFT is not a neutral payment system.

It’s a weapon.

Get cut off from SWIFT, and you’re locked out of global trade.

Russia.
Iran.
Cuba.
Venezuela.

Different politics. Same outcome.

They don’t teach this in school because it’s uncomfortable.

We don’t send 18-year-olds to die for “freedom.”

We send them to protect reserve currency status.

Currency funds the military.
The military protects the currency.

That’s how empires work.

Britain learned this the hard way.

The British pound was the world’s reserve currency for nearly 200 years.

After World War II, Britain lost reserve status.

Within two decades, the British Empire collapsed.

Same cycle.

Dutch guilder.
British pound.
Now the U.S. dollar.

Ray Dalio has been warning about this for years.

Late-stage empire looks like this:

• Military overextension
• Rising debt
• Currency weakening
• Rivals building alternatives

China’s Belt and Road isn’t charity.

It’s about creating debt relationships denominated in yuan.

BRICS aren’t talking about alternatives because they’re friends.

They’re building an exit ramp from dollar dependence.

When the dollar loses reserve status — not if, when — the ability to print money without consequences disappears.

- Then the military contracts.

Y en esa línea, mi humilde aportación es que en la discusión se ha considerado al humano como un ente estático, sin previsión de evolución futura, frente a la IA que crece cada hora.
A mi modo de ver esta comparativa es injusta. El ser humano, como estructura orgánica pluricelular que es, sigue evolucionando aunque mucho más lento que la IA que conocemos.
Pero la plasticidad de sus neuronas le permiten adaptarse y mejorar como no lo podrá hacer nunca una estructura inorgánica. Es probable que en un futuro desarrolle y generalice otras habilidades como comunicación extrasensorial, telepatía, o se comprendan y mejoren percepciones como la intuición o "el sexto sentido", que hoy no pasan de ser conceptos incomprendidos.
Entonces el paradigma a tener en cuenta para la AGI será diferente.

In May 2019 a prominent Bitcoin Core developer called Matt Corallo posted a Twitter thread calling for DEI recruitment into Bitcoin development.

The same month, John Newbery hired a new co-organiser for Chaincode Labs' developer residency.

The man Newbery hired was Adam Jonas.

Jonas was not a protocol developer. He was a pro baseball player developer and scout before studying at the Flatiron School and then becoming their Director of Engineering.

He didn't just work at Flatiron. He was one of the first people the school trained, in its founding year, 2012.

Flatiron School is a New York coding bootcamp that makes DEI the explicit organising principle of its public identity.

Race- and gender-gated fellowships. A BLM-era DEI Taskforce. Cohort bonding sessions called "Feelings Friday."

A named core value: "Nurture Difference."

Newbery explained the Jonas hire in a Max Hillebrand Interview at Breaking Bitcoin Amsterdam in 2019: "Jonas's background is in education. He was working in the Flatine School and managing teams and projects there. So he has a lot of experience putting together these programs."

The qualification mentioned was programme architecture, from the Flatiron School.

"Feelings Friday" appeared at Chaincode's June 2019 residency. Sessions where cohort members process their emotions together.

Carla Kirk-Cohen, a 2019 resident, documented it on the What Bitcoin Did podcast 134 in August 2019: "We have Feelings Friday, at 4:30 on a Friday. We all grab a beer and unload our week's emotions."

Flatiron formalised the same named practice a year later.

Jonas carried it in.

Kirk-Cohen went on to be publicly named by Jonas as "our poster child" of the recruitment pipeline in an Adopting Bitcoin talk in December 2021. She subsequently joined the board of Brink, designated as an independent director.

On the Stephan Livera Podcast ep. 216 in October 2020 and The Anita Posch Podcast same month, Gloria recounts how Jonas cold-emailed her in January 2020 and urged here to apply again for a residency at Chaincode Labs.

She had applied to Chaincode the year before and been rejected. She had since lined up offers from Google and Facebook. She was about to remove all mention of blockchain from her resumé.

Jonas had been tracking her for over a year.

Jonas offered to set up a coffee chat at the Stanford Blockchain Conference with "some Chaincode Bitcoiners."

She said yes, and described how she expected to meet "nutty Bitcoin maximalists."

Instead she met John Newbery and Amiti Uttarwar.

Zhao sat with them for three hours.

Newbery told her, in what she recalled as his "very soft, British voice," that Bitcoin Core was "the most interesting project in the world."

Uttarwar told her to just clone the repository and try it.

She was accepted to Chaincode's residency that year, after meeting Amiti and John at the dinner. The year after being rejected.

Here's the thing... Uttarwar had followed the exact same path:

Rejected in 2018. Met Newbery at an Optech dinner in 2019. Accepted that same year.

Described here in a Coindesk piece "Amiti Uttarwar: Building Bitcoin's Future" from September 2021.

While Jonas was running the pipeline, he was also designing the institution (Brink) that would fund its output permanently.

Brink would become the single largest funder of Bitcoin Core developers. Over $17 million in documented donations.

The blueprint for it was written by the man running the residency, on his personal website, six weeks before it existed.

On October 16, 2020, Jonas published "Funding Bitcoin Development" on his personal site, arguing for a trusted nonprofit intermediary to fund Core developers.

Two days later he posted another blog post: "Starting a Bitcoin 501(c)(3)." A detailed operational blueprint. IRS process, approval timelines, legal gotchas.

Thirty-six days later, Brink launched.

It was presented as John Newbery's organisation. Jonas's name appeared nowhere in the public materials.

On launch day, Newbery told Jonas publicly: "Thank you for all of your help with Brink. Your initial research was what got the whole thing started."

That exchange is the only on-record acknowledgment that Jonas conceived it. It has never been addressed in any Brink public materials.

Six weeks after launch, Brink announced its first fellowship recipient.

Gloria Zhao.

The vote was cast by a three-person board: Newbery, Schmidt, and Harding.

The man who recruited her, mentored her, arranged her prior funding, and conceived the organisation was the man who cast one of the three votes.

No formal conflict-of-interest process is documented.

On the Anita Posch podcast, Zhao named, unprompted, the three people who brought her in:

"Amiti and Adam Jonas and John Newbery got me into Bitcoin Core."

Jonas's institutional influence and reach didn't stop at the recruiting pipeline and the funding.

In May 2024, Bitcoin Core's moderation guidelines were introduced at the weekly IRC meeting. The maintainer presenting them said: "ajonas wrote some moderation guidelines."

ajonas is Adam Jonas. Those same guidelines were used to mute Luke Dashjr on the OP_RETURN pull request and ban Antoine Riard from the Bitcoin Core repository entirely.

In July 2022 Gloria Zhao became a Bitcoin Core maintainer.

Only two and a half years had passed since her three hour coffee chat at Stanford with John Newbery and Amiti Uttarwar.

Typical time to reach maintainership is five to ten years.

On June 9, 2025, Gloria Zhao merged PR #32406, removing Bitcoin Core's OP_RETURN limit.

It was the most contested merge in recent Core history.

Coinbase made $1.35 billion in stablecoin revenue in 2025, up 48% year over year, almost entirely from interest earned on U.S. Treasuries held in USDC reserves. Bloomberg estimates that number could surge 7x under the GENIUS Act. Every person who uses USDC for payments instead of Bitcoin is a person whose dollars are sitting in Coinbase's reserve pool generating risk-free yield for Coinbase.

A de minimis exemption for Bitcoin would let people spend it freely for everyday purchases without triggering a taxable event. That makes Bitcoin a direct competitor to USDC as a payment method. Coinbase doesn't want that competition. They want you locked into their centralized stablecoin ecosystem where they clip yield on every dollar you park there.

The irony is that a de minimis exemption doesn't even make sense for stablecoins. They're pegged to the dollar. They don't fluctuate in value. There's no capital gain to exempt. The exemption matters for Bitcoin precisely because it does fluctuate, and without it, every coffee purchase becomes a taxable event.

Senator Lummis proposed a $300 de minimis exemption that would cover Bitcoin. The House framework only covers stablecoins under $200. The Bitcoin Policy Institute has already warned that Bitcoin is being deliberately excluded from these talks.

A de minimis exemption that covers stablecoins but not Bitcoin isn't a tax framework. It's a subsidy for Coinbase's treasury management business disguised as consumer protection.

Dicho esto, me reafirmo en las conclusiones de mi nota sobre el pod anterior de esta serie, pero ahora puedo dar más detalles. En concreto, sobre la implementación de Ark por parte de Arcade detecto todos estos puntos conflictivos:

- Mientras no se realicen pagos dentro de Ark, se mantiene la unilateralidad de la salida a onchain sin permiso (pero con un alto coste en transacciones), pero cuando se transacciona dentro de Ark se pierde la característica permision-less, y se hace más cara y compleja la salida cuanto más se transaccione.
- Los sats Ark tienen diferente valor real del facial puesto que las monedas caducan tras un mes. Se puede renovar la caducidad, pero tiene un coste, de momento solo de recursos, pero muy previsiblemente el servicio tendrá una comisión. Y cuando las monedas caducan, Arcade las cambia por su propia shitcoin, donde ya no se tiene autocustodia. Por lo tanto una moneda más joven tiene un valor real mayor que otra más vieja con el mismo valor facial.
- Las transacciones (pagos) dentro de Ark usan un arquitectura cliente-servidor completamente centralizada. Por lo tanto, se necesita confiar en el operador de que no haya doble gasto (como en un banco tradicional). Y asimismo no existe ninguna privacidad, al disponer el operador de todo el historial de transacciones on-Ark y de las onchain para el ingreso y la salida.
- Ark no tiene sentido sin Lightning, puesto que éste es fundamental para entrar y salir al sistema via swaps sin sufrir el tortuoso camino hacia onchain.

Francamente, si Ark ha venido para solucionar los problemas de la gestión de liquidez de Lightning, el coste es excesivo. Para facilitar la gestión de la liquidez se incrementa exponencialmente la complejidad, se centraliza la operación, se pierde la privacidad y se necesita depositar la confianza en un tercero, es decir, se renuncia a todo aquello por lo que hemos venido a Bitcoin.

Todo este empeño en el desarrollo de Ark parece injustificado para la aplicabilidad en el bitcoiner particular que usa btc para ahorrar y gastar.
Por lo tanto intuyo que tanto esfuerzo tiene un público objetivo diferente. Con el estado del desarrollo a día de hoy, tiene más pinta de ser una herramienta DeFi que añadirá valor al ecosistema financiero de derivados Bitcoin. Es decir, se parece más a un Exchange parcialmente descentralizado que a una cadena lateral de Bitcoin.

El mundo empezará a cambiar de verdad cuando aparezcan nuevos pequeños estados con una economía construida sobre bitcoin que ofrezcan productos y servicios, adquiribles solo en bitcoin, a los que el sistema fiat no pueda renunciar.
Esto provocará que la adopción se acelere, a la vez que garantizará una supervivencia natural de estos nuevos estados sin necesidad de violencia, ya que el sistema actual, que tiene el monopolio de la guerra, será el primer interesado en que sigan en pie cuando sea dependiente de ellos.

Dicho esto, me reafirmo en las conclusiones de mi nota sobre el pod anterior de esta serie, pero ahora puedo dar más detalles. En concreto, sobre la implementación de Ark por parte de Arcade detecto todos estos puntos conflictivos:

- Mientras no se realicen pagos dentro de Ark, se mantiene la unilateralidad de la salida a onchain sin permiso (pero con un alto coste en transacciones), pero cuando se transacciona dentro de Ark se pierde la característica permision-less, y se hace más cara y compleja la salida cuanto más se transaccione.
- Los sats Ark tienen diferente valor real del facial puesto que las monedas caducan tras un mes. Se puede renovar la caducidad, pero tiene un coste, de momento solo de recursos, pero muy previsiblemente el servicio tendrá una comisión. Y cuando las monedas caducan, Arcade las cambia por su propia shitcoin, donde ya no se tiene autocustodia. Por lo tanto una moneda más joven tiene un valor real mayor que otra más vieja con el mismo valor facial.
- Las transacciones (pagos) dentro de Ark usan un arquitectura cliente-servidor completamente centralizada. Por lo tanto, se necesita confiar en el operador de que no haya doble gasto (como en un banco tradicional). Y asimismo no existe ninguna privacidad, al disponer el operador de todo el historial de transacciones on-Ark y de las onchain para el ingreso y la salida.
- Ark no tiene sentido sin Lightning, puesto que éste es fundamental para entrar y salir al sistema via swaps sin sufrir el tortuoso camino hacia onchain.

Francamente, si Ark ha venido para solucionar los problemas de la gestión de liquidez de Lightning, el coste es excesivo. Para facilitar la gestión de la liquidez se incrementa exponencialmente la complejidad, se centraliza la operación, se pierde la privacidad y se necesita depositar la confianza en un tercero, es decir, se renuncia a todo aquello por lo que hemos venido a Bitcoin.

Todo este empeño en el desarrollo de Ark parece injustificado para la aplicabilidad en el bitcoiner particular que usa btc para ahorrar y gastar.
Por lo tanto intuyo que tanto esfuerzo tiene un público objetivo diferente. Con el estado del desarrollo a día de hoy, tiene más pinta de ser una herramienta DeFi que añadirá valor al ecosistema financiero de derivados Bitcoin. Es decir, se parece más a un Exchange parcialmente descentralizado que a una cadena lateral de Bitcoin.
