It wouldn’t take that much effort (considering we’ve put a mirror on the moon) to put a mirror on one of the peaks and bounce a laser of it to prove it’s actually the peak we’re seeing and not something else.

I was raised Christian, went to Sunday school and then church when I was older. Once I was old enough to think critically for myself I decided it wasn’t for me. I have no issues with the general principles espoused I just don’t think, on the balance of evidence, that there is a god.

And if we’re throwing shade at people who don’t believe the same things as us, I find it sad that some people feel the need to tell others their life would be better if only they’d believe the same things as them.

That’s my bad, I changed the question to one which is easier to challenge. Well done you for spotting it and taking the opportunity to answer with a question of your own while simultaneously avoiding answering my original question.

To answer your question; “Who says the consensus has been a globe for the last 4000 years?” The body of scientific work produced over that period, some of which I have alluded to earlier in our conversation, all of which you dismissed.

If, as you claim, the common assumption was that the earth was flat pre 1970’s it should be easy to find some evidence of that in the scientific literature or educational text books. An extremely brief, not so thorough, internet search didn’t turn up any thing for me except for the misconception that everyone in the Middle Ages thought the earth was flat which found its way into educational texts. This is not to be confused with education in the late twentieth century teaching that the earth actually was flat for which I did not see any evidence. However, I remain confident that you will have some examples on hand to dissuade me of my ill conceived notions on this.

As a personal anecdote; I don’t know how old you are but I know people who went to school before the 1970s and none of them were taught that the earth was flat.

Additional personal anecdote; Why would mariners make their lives more difficult than necessary by making and using maps and navigation techniques that assume a globe earth rather than flat? And before you say they don’t, I have friends and family who are sailors and have used said techniques while navigating at sea. Techniques that simply would not work if the earth was flat.

To return to your point about the TV being a powerful brainwashing tool, I do agree with you on that. Not as powerful as social media though. Which, as we know came into our lives at a much later date than TV and the advent of which is not far from the increase in talk of, and belief in, a flat earth. If we’re looking for correlations between introduction of technology and change in opinions about previously established ‘facts’ I would posit that the correlation is stronger for social media > flat earth than TV > globe earth.

But, if you are correct and we have been brainwashed via TV about the shape of the earth who decided to do it and why? And how did they convince all world governments to get on board with the lie? Surely I don’t need to remind you that the US and USSR were deep in the Cold War during the 1970s. Are you suggesting they were ready to start a nuclear war against each other but at the same time colluding to brainwash their populations about the shape of the earth? To what end? The space program would have had just as mush validity if the earth were flat, we would still want to know what was above and below us.

And if we’re saying that the government knew that the earth was flat before the space program, how did they know? How did they find out? And most importantly what incentivised them to lie about it?

And if it’s all just about money and the space program was just about siphoning money away from people for the elites to put in their piggy banks don’t you think there are easier ways to do that which don’t involve such elaborate and hard to execute lies?

Here’s a counter proposal for you.
Which the advent of social media, people with marginalised views could find other people with similar views and form communities around those views. The human need for acceptance drove that desire to find people who accepted you.
As social media developed a monetary incentive emerged to create and share content. Growing your community now had 2 incentives drivers, the need for acceptance and money.

Pythagoras and Aristotle argued that the Earth was round based on observations such as curved shadows on the moon during eclipses and ships disappearing over the horizon. These are qualitative arguments much as your “I can’t see any curvature” is.

Eratosthenes, in the third century BC, used the neat little trick that you could do yourself today. He measured the shadow cast by a vertical object at two different locations (Syrene and Alexandria) and then used his observations and maths to calculate the circumference of the Earth. If you care you can look up the details.

P and S waves, the waves created during an earthquake, can be used not only to show the Earth is round but they also help us to understand what the earth is made of. Again easy to look up and find explanations for if you care to.

Your comment about using a spirit level to show that the Earth is flat is fundamentally and technically flawed. If you wanted to use a spirit level to show that the Earth was flat the level wouldn’t need to be over 200m long. Look up the Sagitta formula if you care to know why. The mistake you have made here is not taking into account the relative scales of the thing that you are trying to measure and the thing that you’re measuring with.
You can use a similar method such as shining a laser beam over 500m or so to demonstrate the Earth either being flat or curved and the results are consistent with a global not a flat earth. Again using these observations and a little maths, you can calculate the curvature of the earth.

You can use a sextant to measure the angle above the horizon of Polaris. In the northern hemisphere as you travelled further south Polaris gets lower in the sky. This observation is consistent with a globe Earth and, again, with some measurements and the little maths you can calculate the curvature of the Earth.

There are mathematical models that describe perfectly what we see in the real world. These models also describe a globe earth not flat or level or whatever non globe terminology you are pushing.

There are no such equations for flat / level earthers to fall back on. Your entire argument is based solely on observable phenomena with no attempt to produce and test a hypothesis.

There is no cope here. I have no stake in the shape of the earth. I don’t benefit either way. But the absurdity of the claims are just too wild to ignore.
