You can list people present in a channel. So only speak if smth needs saying. If you know someone by name, there are mechanisms to monitor presence in the background. I'm not sure what 'broadcasting' you mean exactly. Connection could be TLS-based, so should be fairly solid.

I've seen the following noted by others as well: end-to-end encryption doesn't make much sense for public chatrooms, so proper transport security guarantees and modern feature set goes a long way. IRCv3 has some nice things. Some people seem to want persistence but I thought it kinda nice to just go in and go with the flow. Maybe some identity that allows one to find another easily. That's the one thing that would make personal interaction more convenient.

It's not that I dislike the newer solutions, but they want to be everything and centralized and with ever-changing nonsense. And that shit gets tiring. I think forums with their targeted selection of topics are actually nice, because you go there and it will be interesting because of it.

The social media oriented solutions are general first.

I've been thinking about what it would mean if forums worked with a shared API, then client would generate ids, and you would be able to add a forum/community to a client and work with it from there. Ideally, no registration simply with a generated identity. Compatible over SMF, phpBB, vBulletin, etc. Like .. add a forum and participate, with each forum being specific to its community/topic.

dude! I've been checking this 'memtest=7' out and it is pretty sweet as simple precaution. I haven't found errors but it's nice to know there is some elementary precheck that might find anything serious.

The `>1` makes sense as not every bit-flip from every position would cause problems. Is there anything else meaningful to say about that memtest-param or is it really as straight-forward as that?

look, fwiw, people sometimes claim "social media is bad" etc. but people can be enormous manipulative assholes in local setting as well. I think social media isn't that much worse, but is more apparent. I'd recommend you write about ongoing harassment. You shouldn't deal with it alone. People notice but don't always know how best to help. It doesn't mean it should not be exposed.

[..] Try observing how they're attacking, based on what, how many lies/deception, etc. After several years I found what helped me is some silly memes with proverbs on sensible bits of wisdom that help establish what normal behavior is supposed to be. The crap I had to deal with, at least, became both large-scale and very manipulative.

I would say, do write about it. It helps others to keep track. (Parts that don't expose you, make you vulnerable. The events.)

my experience with people who jump into the victim role, as of late, often are involved in malicious practices themselves. I don't like to play that game, personally. I called out for "attacking work-products/results instead of the person", but they'll often refuse if they have malicious intent. If they're reasonable, they'll criticize the topic instead personal attacks.

A tip: toxic/abusive people usually are more unreasonable than a reasonable person would expect. [..]

I have been mostly observing in a few mailinglists as early as during subversion's rising. Later during development of bazaar. And with Jitsi it was discussing in case of questions with PR for contributions themselves. Sending patches is a bit more tedious, but not bad, if you consider there are ongoing conversations that you can follow along with.

I don't know enough about OpenSUSE but what would long-time users say about the distro. I get your point, but I don't recall ever that I heard stories that they left their users out in the cold for any reason whatsoever. And from the suse conf videos it seems a lot of things are changing, so maybe your timing is just somewhat impractical.
