Most of my students know that the US did not enter WWII until after Pearl Harbor (12/7/1941).

A few know about America First and the embrace of isolationism in the late-1930s.

Almost none believe me when I tell them that 90+ PERCENT of Americans opposed US entry into WWII in May 1940, when the Nazi Blitzkrieg was tearing through Western Europe.

They struggle to accept what's happening in the US today b/c they can't shake the myth of American exceptionalism and eternal valor.

Harvard profs Enos and Levitsky rightly take their employer to task for “turning inward” and performing neutrality as the MAGA attack on democracy proceeds.

#Academia and #HigherEd must articulate and defend their values and methods of fact-based critical inquiry or these institutions will help facilitate a new age of violent stupidity, greed, and nihilism.

The white “pride” clique are still (for now) ashamed to show their faces.

Why? Because they KNOW it’s terrorism, not heritage. Even as they whoop and holler in an attempt to convince themselves otherwise, they know it’s despicable and un-American.

There’s hope while this remains true.
