I have used UMAP and t-SNE for analysis of environmental samples of PCBs and other things, and have found that they usually produce different, but often complementary, insights. The results in this paper shouldn't be taken as an indication that UMAP is always the best approach.

UMAP, t-SNE, and PCA were used for dimensionality reduction and pattern analysis. UMAP proved best at clustering data points with similar fingerprints.
