I think if we’re honest with ourselves, the “service” most reporters provide on social media is entirely self-serving. A one-way firehose of signal boosting and self promotion.

“Look at me! I wrote this story. Click on it!”
And then you ask them a question, or have a correction, and nobody reads it, because Wired doesn’t care about building a community, just reaching a consumer. It’s fire and forget.

There have also been some program changes that I didn’t expect. With the exception of AG Nick Brown, who helped open ceremonies at Cal Anderson, I’m told there are no elected official speakers.

According to the Indivisible media folks, this was a “deliberate choice”, although they didn’t elaborate on the criteria.

If I had to wildly speculate (which I don’t, but I will) I imagine that last years invitees suddenly pivoting into campaign speeches probably influenced this.

Here’s an interesting logistical change from last year; today’s main event, which will be held after the march at Seattle Center, is focused on connecting attendees on a per-neighborhood basis to each other.

The legal system already does not function, specifically for me. I have no reason to believe that the Constitution will protect me, or that plausible deniability will keep me out of jail. This initiative comes at an absolutely terrible time; as the GOP flirts with the idea of tracking pregnancies over state lines to criminalize abortion; eugenicist RFK threatens constructing an autism database; and the rest of the clown show seeks to eradicate transgender people.

My doctor’s office just asked me if I consented to an AI scribe taking session notes. (Obviously I said absolutely not and over my dead body).

I am physically incapable of minding my own business so I asked for details. They confirmed that means the rooms are capable of recording now, but assured me that it is “completely deleted” in a “timely fashion”.

I’m with One Medical. So that means the steward of that data is AMAZON.

They read out portions of the police reports and they were quite vague. In almost all cases, they lacked a clear subject or victim.

The bail amounts that the state initially requested were all quite high. For the protestors, the highest was $100k; the judge agreed that was exorbitant and reduced it to $20k.

I’m unsure if that’s standard procedure; it seemed to be true of all cases (I heard at least three hours worth of unrelated cases, and those all started very high as well). In most cases bail requests were slashed to 1/10 of the original ask.

Update on the Cal Anderson hearings in #Seattle:

We got out about an hour ago. I was not permitted to take notes or record (long story, mildly frustrating), so we’re going to have to go off of my memory.

The first two protestors had their charges immediately dismissed without the need for a hearing.

The court determined that the rest had probably cause and those cases will proceed. By my count two of those will have to post bail; the rest were released on recognizance (so, without bail)

Attended the hearing today for State of Washington v Trump. You’ve probably heard by now but the judge agreed that Trump’s attempt to ban trans healthcare indirectly through federal funding appropriations is likely unconstitutional.

The DOJ lawyers fucked it up in a big way. You could hear the judge getting annoyed with their incompetence.
