Today's little #solar #horror #chainreaction story:

1. A #toilet started running while we were away yesterday.
2. As a result, our #waterpump ran continuously.
3. The 1st #battery out of two batteries collapsed.
4. The #inverter kept pulling current.
5. The 2nd battery was hammered.
6. This damaged the inverter's DC power stage and deep discharged and damaged at least one of the batteries.

And I was already frustrated that the Love You More (npub1hz5…w52t) #icecream machine is still broken.

I have no idea if this is considered "normal" with Huawei routers. But I've now spent hours setting up an #openvpn tunnel from the #archlinux computers at the Love You More (npub1hz5…w52t) restaurant to the ones at my studio workshop, only to end up disabling IPv6 entirely. 🫣

It works perfectly with IPv4, but for whatever reason, only sometimes with IPv6. 🤔

But, in all honesty, I'm not particularly familiar with either OpenVPN nor IPv6.

I don't think it's a bug. Here's how I explain it to myself:
About two or three hours earlier, I connected to my laptop via SSH from my studio computer just as its battery died. I guess an incomplete, broken session was written to disk at that point, and GNOME then always froze upon logging in because of that corrupt data. 🤔

Today, for the first time since I switched to Linux over 5 years ago, my #archlinux Z16 #thinkpad kept freezing after #gdm authentication. 😲

Apparently, because the status of `/run/user/1000` became corrupt. 🤔

1. TTY login
2. `loginctl terminate-user $USER` (cleanup sessions)
3. `systemctl restart systemd-logind` (recreating the directory)
4. `systemctl reboot`
5. Everything was back to normal

Took me an hour to figure out, though. 🫣

I often don't reply to German posts, which I think is a shame because the content is sometimes really compelling. However, I feel almost, like, you know, rude replying in German when I know many people won't understand me, even though they might find the topic interesting. 🤔

The same goes for accounts that post in languages other than English. I tend not to follow those because it kind of throws me off my English rhythm, if that makes any sense. 😅

Both, the tearing of the GNOME built-in zoom feature and the failure of all the OBS plugins/scripts I tried (so far) seem to be either due to Wayland issues or the fact that I run OBS as a Flatpak. 😅

I recently updated 4 #website (s) to a simple purely #npm based #buildsystem.
In doing so, I learned the hard way that it's best to do programming myself.
I had some extensions written for one of the #theme (s), and these ended up costing me an incredible amount of time now. Tons of unnecessary external dependencies, JS workarounds for things that could have been done with CSS, and an ultra-modular, fragile, hard to comprehend design. And yes, my bad, I didn't do any code review back then. 🫣😅

`sudo dmesg | grep mt7921e` reports: ... WM Firmware Version: ____000000)

There are no matching files in `/lib/firmware/mediatek/` even though I just uninstalled and reinstalled `linux-firmware`, reinstalled `linux-firmware-mediatek` (to be sure), and rebuilt all kernels with `mkinitcpio -P`. 🤔

Weird. I changed cables and ports. It doesn't seem to be an issue with the USB devices themselves. My Avalon Bassline USB MIDI, which has worked fine for years, is failing now as well. The hub seems to be OK too, since keyboard and mouse work flawlessly. 🤔
It looks like Bitwig Studio causes this. Because, as long as it is closed, dmseg and journalctl stay quiet.
Will have a closer look another day. 😇

Out of the blue, my #akaipro MPK261 #midi keyboard started causing problems with #bitwigstudio 5.3.13.
As long as BWS isn't running, it works fine (via an external, powered USB hub).

As soon as BWS is running, the controller loses power from time to time. BWS then reports:

MIDI Input Error:
MPK261 Port A: Error Polling MIDI Input: Success

I tried using both the official Controller Script and without a script at all. I tried direct connection to the PC as well. 🤔
