This is my third #NoKings march in #NYC, and the turnout was so huge that the route overflowed in multiple directions; I've never seen anything like it. Amy and I chilled in the park for a while waiting for the throng in Columbus Circle to move at all, then we scooted down 6th Ave a bit to find the march underway at both 7th and Broadway in parallel. The resulting human traffic jam in Times prevented any continuous walking. We baby-stepped as far as 50th St with our bad knees and called it good.

I believe that Signal is the champion here, storing almost no unencrypted information about you. Apple Messages is also good, but only "blue bubble” messages to other Apple users are encrypted, right?

Here's the deal. I have an idea for a project similar in spirit to Jmac's Arcade. (It is not Jmac's Arcade.) I recently called on that same spirit to write my Fogknife post about leaving Google, and rediscovered how very much I like this style of personal storytelling. I want to do more of it.

The situation with cannabis shops in NYC still feels a bit wobbly. I was definitely turned off by all the garish and often sketchy-looking gray-market shops during their brief ubiquity (and never mind the vans). I found the licensed-and-legal shop I used by going to the website of the brand I was interested in and using their own shop-finder thingy. This is my very first all-my-own #NYC subway story, collected in the winter of 2019, just after I moved here:

I had ridden the subway from our West Harlem apartment all the way down to Brooklyn for an event, and I was feeling pretty pleased with myself.

In fact I must have looked so confident, standing there in the Jay Street station, that a man asked me: “Are we in Brooklyn now?"

I said: “Yes! This is Brooklyn!”

He said: "I got on the wrong train!"

I said: "Oh no!!"

And off he ran.

I really can't overemphasize how happy I am to start going to scattered little events all over NYC, once or twice a week. This is the promise that I held when we moved here five years ago.

I did go to a couple, before this! Winter of 2019, I reconnected with Sumana Harihareswara (npub1hv5…xq0v) at a random talk at NYU, and collected my first subway stories. It was nice!!

But then everything shut down for a couple of years, and then I worked at an energy-sapping tech job for three more.

Today, I feel like myself again.
