I'm not talking about celeb worship so much as the astronomical expectations placed on artists and writers to deliver a product that is both narratively satisfying and morally flawless to millions of people. Creators who made something beloved once are no longer allowed to make mistakes, have bad ideas, or create things that aren't "perfect" in the eyes of fans. So anything new they make ends up being very safe, which the fandom then demonizes them for as well. This has a cooling effect on new creators too.

How sad is that? Not really. I've briefly discussed the periods with my doctor and ended up getting the lowest dose of antidepressants for the mood swings (ran out last year and haven't gotten the prescription renewed due to hassle) and advice on how to take ibuprofen effectively. That keeps some symptoms managed. Though my mom has suspicions that I may have a less debilitating case of endometriosis, since the hellish periods are intermittent.

I read about 2 chapters of the first book because my grandma gifted it to me (because it was what was popular for girls my age at the time), decided it wasn't for me and moved on. I watched the films with my friend many years later and... I guess I'm one of those annoying ironic "fans"? The movies are not good, but I had fun laughing at them. The pregnancy stuff in Breaking Dawn pt. 1 was disturbing, I enjoyed that one the least. And of course what happened with Jacob was a travesty. The baseball scene is the best scene and the soundtrack has some gems.

I agree with most of her points, however:

A) I've never heard of Twilight being a Harry Potter fic and that idea makes zero sense. I recall back during Twilight fever they released Wuthering Heights, Romeo & Juliet, and Pride & Prejudice with Twilight themed covers because Stephanie Meyer said those were some of her biggest inspirations (in general). I would assume the series is therefore a synthesized "fanfic" of those books, with some vampire lit thrown in, and not Harry Potter.

B) She comes down very negatively on "self-indulgent" writing. While I agree that OVERLY self-indulgent writing is bad, noticeable, and potentially damaging, self-indulgent writing as a concept is more neutral to me. I think a bit of self-indulgence, in some cases, can be the best choice narratively, neither diminishing the plot/characters nor preventing the writer from improvement.

C) Admittedly I found certain comments she made to be a bit pretentious. I'm easily annoyed by snooty "tastemaker" attitudes. This is not me saying her intent was to be demeaning, just acknowledging that I have a bias and some things she said activated it.

The rollback of DEI initiatives could be PART of the cause, but the cancelation hammer in the age of streaming has been merciless to everyone. A show is extremely lucky if it survives past two seasons. A common complaint among viewers is that their favorite show was canceled on a cliffhanger. Since there was an influx of LGBtqwerty characters and stories, more of those will be on the chopping block than ever before.
But also, execs care about money, often to the exclusion of all else. If any topic, genre, or medium seems like it will make less money, they will drop it like a hot potato. "Kweerness" is no exception, and I don't see why anyone expected it to be.

I've watched so many baking shows where they clearly weren't allowed to say the name of a brand of cereal or candy, and the generic term sounded ridiculously bland.

I've seen a couple recent articles about rainbow crosswalks, and I genuinely don't understand why they're THAT important to some people. Certain eyesore PRIDE flags can be irritating to see, but they're purely decorative and usually aren't obstructing any views. Crosswalks, however, have an important function. It has been shown that rainbow coloring a crosswalk can diminish its functionality. There are better and safer ways to show solidarity with the LGBtq community, if that's what your city really wants to do. And if publicly displaying rainbow symbolism means so much, why do it in a way that puts shoes and tires on top of it 24/7?

Forced teaming is so frustrating. There's a petition going around to help increase sex-based protections in my state. The word SEX is specifically used multiple times. It's for reproductive healthcare such as abortion/contraceptives, to prevent discrimination against pregnant women, and also protections for gay marriage. BUT they also slip in a bunch of crap about gender identity, attacks on trans rights, and being allowed to receive and choose healthcare based on gender. This creates confusion.

Notice I said "gay marriage" and not "same-sex marriage." That's because in the explanation of the petition, they use "same-gender marriage." This doesn't make sense with the rest of the proposal, which focuses on SEX based descrimination and SEXual orientation.

Saying that you "can't descriminate on the basis of sex... but also gender" weakens the proposal because they're simultaneously using sex and gender to mean the same thing AND different things. You're opening up the proposal to scrutiny and loophole abuse by being inconsistent like this. It's impossible to tell if the gender sections were put in to appease the cultists or if the gender sections are what's really important to them. If the former, the proposal would be more readily accepted without the trans lip service. If the latter, they KNEW they couldn't win approval for gender on its own, so they had to force team with women's and gay rights and then use deliberately confusing language. Becuass that's what TRAs do best.

I noticed a drop in anti-smoking PSAs/ads over the last decade or so, presumably because the rates had gone down. The rates are going back up now. Pretty sad, honestly. Even worse that celebrity endorsement is part of the trend.

This movie makes Ellen Page seem more pathetic than ever. She crafted the ultimate trans LARPG. This is escapism on steroids, a vanity project that could cause a copium overdose.

Also, according to a few comments, the love interest's actress is deaf. This is apparently not well explained in the advertising or the movie itself. You'd think they'd be eager to let the target audience know they have disability rep, but maybe they were worried it would steal attention away from the trans of it all.🙄 So they just left people to crudely speculate about why they're having trouble understanding her.

Her death was fine in terms of plot. I just felt the way she died was a bit too... sudden? I don't think there's a non-traumatic way to lose one's mother, but to me this felt especially cruel for Buffy, for whatever reason.
Also I didn't enjoy watching the show after season 4, honestly. It just became an endless parade of suffering and I got tired of feeling dead inside at the end of every episode.

The TQ+ will never admit that they created the rift between themselves and the LGB. It was their bad behavior, their unreasonable demands, their misogyny, and their homophobia that created it. It was how they took over and then ruined what the LGB built up.
