No... that's not about 3 times as fast, that's 114x faster. The AI version took 18 seconds to do one operation, my code could to do 6 operations per second!

One thing I have learned over and over is that whatever you code is now, it can always been 10 times faster.

I had a script that created a thumbnail of all videos in a folder. The first script took about 4 seconds per video. Now with optimization, the script can create thumbnails of 100 videos in 1.2 seconds. No not 1.2 seconds per video. All 100 videos are processed in 1.2 seconds ;)

Here they want you to break up the arguments, even though the comment text underneath is much longer.

I discovered that my backup silently deleted all backups. 😲

The problem is that I have a running backup that creates a new backup folder for each day, this way I can always go back to a previous backup. But this creates a ton of backup folders, so I also auto-delete any backup folder older than 30 days.

Can you guess the problem? Rsync also syncs modification dates. So any new folder created is synced to whatever date the original folder has. So every folder was now older than 30 days.

One of the problems I have always had when doing data analysis in Python is that it is running in the terminal, and terminals look like something from the 1960s.

Well, by default, I would either have to save that as a file and then open it, or call .show(), which would show the graph in a second window. But, what I want is to show the graph inline as an actual pixel-perfect image.

Heh... my new site loads in 42 ms... That's the entire site, including getting all the data from the database, checking login, running security, processing the headers, building the html, rendering the page, etc.

But, it's even crazier than that because the python code itself only takes 3.5ms to run. So, it's using 38.5ms for 'networking' and the rest is the site.

I mean, Google.com takes 142ms to load.

So I asked it to give me every possible combination of four words.

This, of course, was no problem. There are 24 combinations, and it gave them to me almost instantly.

Then I stepped it up to six words... and again, it did just fine.

But then I asked it to do twelve words... and it refused. ;)

So, we cannot defeat AIs this way. ;)

I have never liked Ubuntu's auto-update with how it is focusing on uptime rather than security. And, I get it, uptime is important. But it often leaves the system in an insecure state.

So, I have now created my own auto-update script for my server. What this does is to force a full update every time, and, if needed, restarts the server immediately.

This doesn't actually cause any more downtime, since the server would have had to be restarted manually anyway. Now, it's just automatic.

Note to tech companies. I don't want a NAS with built in AI and cloud based service. I want a NAS with plenty of storage expansion slots, running stock Ubuntu so that I can do whatever I want with it, and I want it to be fanless so that it makes no noise whatsoever in my home.

Uh... I don't actually know. They are just images, screenshots, etc. in my photo library. Pretty much a mix of everything. But my phone is 12mpix, so that a bit more than 4K (as far as I know), but there are a ton of other images too.
