It seems that what you’re proposing here is to implement a representative democracy on Bitcoin. I would be more in favor of a direct democracy that is well suited to decide the future of a public good such as Bitcoin. Elective democracy is more prone to corruption and while I agree that the plebs is not all knowing in all matters, collective intelligence is often superior to the intelligence of one corruptible committee of men. Open debates between experts would certainly be an important component to maintain. Participating in a process of direct democracy is optional and would require active participation from the node runners so it’s not everybody that would show up to have their voice heard, only those with a honest interest in improving the protocol.

Governance in #Bitcoin is stuck because the mining power is too centralized and miners don’t really care about politics, they just want to make money for securing the network. Now imagine that governance would be decided by node runners and that to an eligible node runner you just need to prove that you are a unique human to prevent Sybil attacks. Would it be a bad way to govern the protocol?

I don’t know what’s going on with #Nostr / damus (npub18m7…q955) but I can’t see a note that I have posted multiple times while I can see my « GM » note (that I posted as a test). It seems that someone has replied to the note (that I can’t see) as I received a push notification for the reply but I just can’t see the note anywhere. It seems I’m having a lot of similar glitches lately (especially getting notified for people replies but. Ot being able to see the reply). I don’t even know how I can troubleshoot this. I may just have to try a new client. We are still a long way to be able to compete with centralized social media platforms…

Some MAGA folks claim that #Trump is clean from the #EpsteinFiles because a document shows that he called the police on Epstein (and supposedly he was one of the first to do so). This claim is made without considering the broader context. Trump called the police AFTER it was known that an investigation had been opened on #Epstein. This seems like a lame attempt from Trump to save his ass before the scandal blows up to Epstein’s circle. If Trump would have really cared about saving the children from Epstein’s evil, he would have contacted the police years before and not just when shit is about to hit the fan.

It’s been know for years that Trump is owned by the Rothschild and now that the connection between them and Epstein is confirmed, it becomes increasingly difficult to make the case that Trump is not implicated in wrongdoing along with Epstein.

The lightning network was accepted as the solution to this issue. Now that it has failed, what’s next? Another contributor to the untenability of the backing of the US dollar by gold was the creation of the Eurodollars system which allows foreign banks to create US dollars. The US Federal Reserve has no oversight over those banks so for obvious reasons, a gold backing couldn’t be maintained even if there had been a willingness to do so.

I’m not sure VPN blocked will deter VPN usage. You may have to turn off your VPN to access some official/institutional website which already ties to your real identity anyway. However, websites that are broadly accessed through pseudonyms would shoot them themselves in the foot with those restrictions. If they are forced to do so via regulations, it will help decentralized alternatives. The only real way VPN bypass can be countered is by enforcing a digital ID at the ISP level.

#BTC broke the $90,672 level which was the last line in the sand for the bull scenario to remain probable. With this level broken and even if we bounce from here, I give the bull path under 10% chance of playing out. The bear path likelihood is now at 80%. There probably won’t be much to update on the high time frame moving forward as I don’t see a strong alternative to a multi years sideway consolidation for now (unless we reach the grayed out box). If I keep on doing those updates, it will probably be to zoom in on the lower time frame.

Because of the exponential decay distribution of the BTC issuance the role of new issuance in this distribution phase is insignificant in comparison to the distribution of the already mined and strongly concentrated supply.

I don’t know for sure what the future hold for the price of #Bitcoin and maybe the price discovery phase will continue but I’m afraid it won’t be until a large distribution phase has played out first.

Fiat has all the problems we know about but it’s still the king medium-of-exchange. I take no joy in saying that but it’s just an obvious fact (ask anyone who’s not a Bitcoin maxi and you’ll see).

The error of judgement that many have made about Bitcoin is to believe that not catching up as a medium-of-exchange against fiat would have no negative impact on the store-of-value property in the long run. We can now see that OGs being forced to sell #BTC for fiat rather than circulating their holding in the economy is the dynamic that is going to put a lid on the price appreciation for probably what will be an extended period of time.

I’m not sure what my statement is contradictory with what. I certainly could have made my point clearer though.

1) The Bitcoin supply is highly concentrated in the hands of a few partly due to its exponential decay distribution.

2) because of the lack of adoption as a medium-of-exchange, the best mean for OGs looking to cash out is to convert their #BTC for fiat which remains the best MoE.

3) this combination is likely to cap the price of Bitcoin for many years in what would be the biggest distribution phase ever seen by Bitcoin.

Some have called for Bitcoin entering an IPO moment which is a fallacious analogy as Bitcoin has been accessible to retail since day 1. It’s actually a key difference with stock that goes through an IPO phase which distributes from insiders to retail. In the case of Bitcoin, the distribution phase goes the other way from retail to institutions. Distribution phase are not bullish no matter who distributes to who.

Due to its non-linear emission, the #Bitcoin supply became quite concentrated among early adopters. Over the last week, I’ve seen a lot of traders on X surveying their audience on whether #Bitcoin has entered a bear market or will see a higher high next. This is a trick question because I think both are true.

In #trading, no expectation should ever be absolute but rather probabilistic. However, if I had to answer this question gun to my head, I would say that #BTC has entered a bear market at the top on August 14 (defined as the shift from an impulsive structure to a corrective one) but that we’ll still see a higher high from here (corrective structure can create higher high).

I would expect this bear market to be shallower but longer than previous ones. This bear market would still present great return opportunities for those willing and able to play the range. Those looking to take profits over the next few years should do so at the top of the range. The mistake that many will make is to sell at the bottom of the range when it will be obvious that the be bull market has ended. People will fear to see the typical 70% correction but I doubt we’ll see more than a 40% correction this time.

But again, anything can happen and my expectation may change as the chart evolves.

Although painful, these market flushes are an opportunity to differentiate over-hyped #crypto from undervalued/fairly valued ones.

Rare are the cryptos that haven’t retraced all their gains or worse hit double digits loss over the last month.

That said, some are faring fairly well. For instance, #iDNA powered by proof-of-human-work is still up 36% over the last month while offering validators a high double digit yield.

Quantum resistant cryptos have also performed incredibly well with #QRL up 165%.

Also to play Devil’s advocate one could say that using ZCash private addresses only is more private than using Monero because there is no vector attack for a third party to request the de-anonymization of a user transactions history. If you unshield some of your funds in ZCash you still keep your transaction history private while if you share your view key you share all your transactions history with the third party. This is a bit of a theorical scenario but worth considering.

I also see how sharing view keys with one party is different from transacting in clear and making it available to all but it seems to me that a user who would want to acquire ZCash privately and never unshield his funds would not compromise his privacy more than someone using Monero without sharing his view key. I think Monero’s approach values privacy to a greater degree than ZCash does but it’s possible and not that complicated for someone that would want his transactions to remain private to achieve this goal with ZCash (so I think saying that ZCash is public by default is a bit of an unfair claim). Although I see the use case for view keys I also think that it opens a attack surface for a third party to force the de-anonymization of their users.

My point being that I don’t see what would prevent exchanges to push a similar request on their users by forcing them to share their view key.
