I believe that most of the modern products today are only improvements to the corporate bottom line. I did make 2 substitutions, boiled linseed oil for raw linseed oil and mineral spirits for turpentine. Raw linseed and turpentine are more traditional. (And look like crap)<br/><br/>I found a Scandinavian wood treatment using 1:1:1 parts pine tar, boiled linseed oil, and mineral spirits. <br/><br/>I applied with an airless paint sprayer.<br/><br/>The look far exceeded my expectations as it was applied on weathered cedar siding that looked flat.
