Folks I know, including myself, can work astounding long hours at something they love, even if it doesn't pay, even if it will likely "be useful as a bad example", but because it is important to them.

The danger with being anal about urgent alarms is those with a sinister agenda become the only dogs who will shout for free, thus the alarm most widely heard, and like most frail mammals, humans are highly risk averse, prone to overreact simply guessing their lives are in danger.

In any abusive relationship, at some point, you just need to walk away. Yes it can be hard, you've nowhere to go, no means of support, maybe even have children or other 'property' for the courts to decide, but just GO, figure that out later.

Well, it was PayPal they added, but I imagine self-hosting your own videos such that you could invite a bunch of people to watch without the bandwidth crushing your server. That could be a new song, a family thing, a seminar, whatever. Be cool to have this in #jellyfin too.

Right now I host several Fediverse apps for events, photos, blogging and conversation. Nextcloud can carry all that in one login, all it needs is integrated ActivityPub!

The current Social, even back when it worked, could only chat, like and follow, and as someone else pointed out, they TALK Foss, but it wasn't peertube they added for video…

Imagine if it did though! One click to share from any other nc-app? So nice.

You might learn a lot by digging into the Social app and getting it to work again! They had a timeline of milestones some years back, but interest waned and the switch to Vue maybe killed it.

I think having a true #ActivityPub client really integrated into a #Nextcloud hub (so you could share) might help more folks (and orgs) get on to the #Fediverse.

And you'd learn ActivityPub at the same time! That's got to be a good skill for the future ☺️

The CEO met a poli-sci undergrad at a baseball game. The kid had written a tiny sports pool, and boasted he'd do this server in three weeks. I gladly gave him SrDev and moved to Ops.
