These are all problems today with democracy, tomorrow the problems will be hyper inflation, endless war, and the tyanny of the mob voting to steal all your stuff and put your head on a pike. Of course, "democratic™" rarely means "democracy", it means *whatever I like and nothing I dont*; its amorphous, it changes based on the motivations of its user, there is no universifiable moral values that can be defined. There is only a vague idea about a social contract, something no one has signed, something that cannot be (re)produced, that cannot be signed, has no legal basis, and includes no instructions for what forms of aggression are, and are not permitted under it.

So, you can say monarchy is all these evil things, but its not obvious that democracy is preferable.

Assuming thats accurate,

To 1, I assume we all accept the economic principle that prices fall to the marginal cost of production. If drivechains cause hash prices to fall, all that does is drive out miners that cant compete on MEV. That would make you feel very secure and "powerful" if you were the top pool operator, and that appears to be what Paul is referring too, but why that is a "good thing" eludes me. Again, miners arent getting bribed, they arent getting paid, they are directly collecting the fees because they will be building sidechain blocks. The idea that miners wouldnt jump at the idea to make more money just because they are making enough is thus an irrational conclusion, if they do not then they will be overtaken by a miner that will because of the affect on the hash price.

To 2, again, an arguement about something you dont like about bitcoin today doesnt justify aggrevating the situation. Pauls tendency to resort to these arguements is troubling, either drivechains are a good idea or they are not, when a hole gets poked in his game theory and he immediately starts pointing the finger at someone else it discredits him. At the very least he needs to do a better job defending his arguements, rather than this and the patronizing language from the first link. That aside, he says in-text that liquid hasnt implemented MEV as described, so evaluating that as an arguement is difficult.

I was concerned about recursive vaults, which jeremy said were impossible, but I felt that should be subject to scrutiny/debate before just accepting it. Sorry for the late response, I read it at your suggestion, I think all these points are argued against by shinobi in his recent episode with stephen livera.

The article presupposes that sidechain blocks will be built by proposers, rather than miners. The miners have an economic advantage in creating sidechain blocks because they are already bringing the hashpower, so they dont need to pay what the proposer would to get that block approved, winning a higher profit, so I would expect that the sidechain block production will be dominated by mining pools. Pools that have better tools to exract value from mining sidechains will dominate the mining industry, and make it unprofitable to mine without sidechain mining, let alone mining for anybody but the top pools.

The miners have an enhanced ability to reorg the sidechain too, and proposers lose their spent bitcoin in that case, but miners never needed to pay to create sidechain blocks because they mine it themselves.

You could say, as this article does, that every miner is engaged in finding these side hustles that effect the profitability of mining for everyone. Its not a *good* thing that mining companies are finding economies of scale or side gigs that screw with the economics of bitcoin, it causes miner centralization. We shouldnt look at that and step on the gas pedal, like "ah fuck it, lets just go full send because load shedding is a thing".

Further, these side hustles or tricks like having newer miners all revolve around having more hashing for less electricity. MEV presents a novel price incentive to mining that cant be compared to load shredding or mining on curtailed energy, because those grid issues are everywhere. Mining on ercot has been lucrative for iris, but eventually the texas grid will evolve to not need the miners and the incentives will evaporate, replaced by incentives posed by other grids like microgrids in africa.

When these discussions picked up the line was that it doesnt pose a risk, it seems clear that it does pose a risk. Maybe you consider the risk worth it, but I don't; it adds too many unknowns to the incentives around mining, the lack of clear explanation of why miners wouldnt create the sidechain blocks is the most obvious issue I see.

That said, the libertarian position is that public property can only exist through the theft of private property, so the government has a mandate to maintain that property inline with how it would be maintained as private property. In this context that would imply 1. Build a wall, as you would around your house in a bad neighborhood 2. Evict tresspassers 3. Establish invite only immigration proceedures 4. Stop engaging in activities that cause mass migration.

By comparison, red team and blue team have spent the last several decades overthrowing governments and starting civil wars in central/south america, africa, the middle east, and eastern europe. You could say that the total supply of fiat is limited at any single moment, but I would argue this does not constitute scarce.
-Scarce would imply a marginal cost of production that fiat does not have, more can be created by political means.
-your definition of scarcity here would imply that nothing is *not* scarce, a jpeg may only have been copied to a million harddrives, but could be copied to 10 million more at essentially zero marginal cost.
Bitcoin on the other hand cannot be created without the marginal cost of production, determined by your computing power (linked to physical cost by your price of electricity) and the total computing power of the network. Further, even taking your arguement at face value, fiat still fails in its centralized issuance and control.

I would be highly skeptical that you could find a crypto that offers these points in better spades than bitcoin. Monero for instance could be said to be more private, but your privacy set, the total number of transactions yours is hidden behind, is limited compared to bitcoin. You would be better off using a coinjoin, a payjoin, or even liquid, compared to using cryptos that lack the economic activity to properly hide amongst the crowd. Further, any additional feature set you find in a crypto will sacrifice a more fundamental feature that bitcoin has, like decentralization, monero would not be able to maintain any sense of decentralization if there transaction volume did go up, because their scaling solution is allowing bigger blocks.

Admittedly this isnt ideal, but of the ways to manage the initial distribution without a central authority this is probably the most honest, and provides a security budget for bootstrapping the network until fees alone can fund mining.

It is a ledger system, in that I agree, bitcoins are comprised of the record of transactions that created them, the UTXOs. However, there is an important distinction between this and traditional ledgers in that the total supply and record of transactions is continuously verified by anyone with a node.

Since there is no central issuer, no trusted counterparty, there is a provably scarce supply, and the asset itself can be held in self custody, I would argue its not possible for it to be a security.

As to defining a commodity, I think, and its not a crystalized definition:
-scarce
-uniform
-primary product
-no central issuance/control
-can be used in trade.
Fiat fails in all but the last; cryptos fail in their inability to resist a central issuance/control and scarcity; physical commodities like oil and gold pass for obvious reasons; bitcoin passes all of these too. So I finished watching september - 11 the new pearl harbor (its 5 hours worth watching). My honest takeaway was "was bin laden in on 9-11?". Seems kind of silly to say, we have the writings of bin laden saying why they attacked the towers, we have the al queda declaration of war, yet something doesnt seem right. The movie lays out a compelling enough case that not only was a controlled demolition possible, not only probable, but that it would have been seemingly impossible to have happened any other way.

Bin laden had a lot of creepy family connections that I cant speak much too, and he was trained by the CIA. But theres more, Scott Horton has repeatedly detailed how the US basically let Bin Laden escape to Pakistan, and how the Taliban was ready to give up Bin Laden and help combat Al Queda, the natural conclusion I originally came to was they wanted a war in Afghanistan for other purposes; what if its deeper than that?
