The "Alien gets to Earth" concept doesn't work. Even David Fincher abandoned the idea for the third film.

So the entire house is still powered just fine, but for some reason the battery backups inside the house are aware the grid is down, and switch to battery, which begins draining.

This means that the things I plug into the battery backups would be *better* served plugged directly into the wall.

Discovered something strange about my solar + battery that I don't understand the mechanics of at all.

We got a whole-home battery when we put solar in. It's Tesla brand unfortunately, the solar company insisted it was the only one they supported that fit my needs.

In any case, whenever the actual grid loses power for some reason, the battery seamlessly powers the house. Lights don't even blink, it's instant.

My guess for what happened last night is simply that everyone tried to connect to the space at once, it didn't work because it was overwhelmed by connection attempts, and then when it didn't work people either gave up or refreshed the page after a random amount of time, both reducing load and implementing a randomized retry + jitter.
