2/ 🤔 This law was only ever meant to be temporary because of the serious limitation it puts on the right to privacy in Europe - but it's now well into its fifth year. The Parliament has at least reduced this new extension by 8 months compared to the Commission’s proposal.

Final negotiations are starting this week, the Council did not amend the Commission’s text in their position.

Today, a Dutch judge ruled in favour of EDRi member Bits of Freedom (npub1vuw…gshh) of Freedom in the appeal vs. Meta.

Facebook and Instagram users will be free to choose how information appears in their feed - and not be forced into algorithmic timelines - will remain intact.

But the fight isn’t over as Meta is still ignoring these rules in other European countries.

🗳️ Last Thursday, the European Parliament approved the EU–Singapore Digital Trade Agreement, rejecting a motion to refer it to the Court of Justice for a legality check.

Under the banner of “free trade,” this binding deal prioritises business over privacy, accountability, and democratic control of digital systems.

The European Commission (npub1m96…ag4y) called out TikTok & Meta for breaking key transparency & accountability rules under the #DSA

The two tech giants made unnecessarily difficult to access data and, in Meta’s case, used deceptive interface design that confuses & discourages users from flagging illegal content.

After this preliminary decision, we urge the Commission to move swiftly toward final remedies & fines — because justice delayed is justice denied.
