This is ironic, considering that the European Commission (npub1m96…ag4y) just unveiled their Tech Sovereignty Package, emphasizing the importance of #OpenSource. And yet they have migrated their main ATproto accounts to W Social - whose code can no longer be inspected!

Apologies for another toot about #WSocial but I am genuinely shaking right now.

The European Commission (npub1m96…ag4y) and its president Ursula von der Leyen have recently migrated their ATproto (Bluesky) accounts to W Social.

I cannot fathom why they would pick a private enterprise whose leaders didn't even have ATproto accounts 3 months ago... and who are so open to having their users' data mined to train European AI models.

I got a mini heart attack, thinking: “did I post something that upset her?” Then I checked the profile of another mutual. Same thing. Maybe the perceived "drawbacks" of #ActivityPub are ultimately strengths?

#ATproto handles identity in a way that allows a single sign-in across apps. But wouldn't this make it easier to profile you? Is this why crypto VCs are so attracted to it?

Upon investigating, it turns out it was my PeerTube instance that was targeted.

Where did the traffic come from?

A month ago there was a lot of buzz on the Fediverse about a new Mastodon server set up by prominent journalists: #TheForkiverse.

There was a rush of sign-ups: nearly 10,000 users in a couple of weeks. People new to the Fediverse, willing to try it out.

Current status: fuming with rage at the SHEER INEPTITUDE of the French press in covering W Social and Mastodon.

In the article linked below "journalist" François Saltiel wrote that Eugen Rochko (npub1vl7…f6g0) "quit his own network [Mastodon] because he was fed up with the behavior of certain users."

Eugen referred to deleting his bridge to Bluesky, not quitting Mastodon FFS.

I'm well aware that posting this info on the Fediverse seems like a pointless exercise, but it's to raise awareness and spread the word to people active in BOTH places.

I was never really active on #Bluesky and entirely stopped using it months ago but there's no point in posting this info there because I have zero reach. Or rather: 1100+ followers and 1-2 likes (at best!) and zero comments for any post. It's like I'm shadow-banned.

An important PSA for people who are active on #Bluesky and who, upon hearing that the ICE account was officially verified, are saying: "I will just block it."

Blocking on Bluesky is NOT PRIVATE: it's very easy to see who is blocking any account by visiting sites that list that information.

I took a screenshot from https://clearsky.app, listing all the accounts that are blocking ICE (I pixelated avatars and usernames for privacy purposes).

The safest bet is to mute (that info is private) 😫

Today I learned from wakest ⁂ (npub1xse…lgk3) that the Parisian art space Palais de Tokyo (npub19xa…rx37) is on the fediverse.

I was curious about the server it's hosted on, so I checked it out and more good news: there are several cultural institutions on it.

Turns out, it's an initiative by the French Ministry of Culture: a Mastodon server to share "cultural news in a way that is freer, open and independent" (their words)!
