you'll have trouble finding it. It was a film McLaren did for channel 4 back in about 1991. Various artists all themed around the mysterious history of Oxford Street. It just is really very wonderful. I had it all on CD and also saw it on TV. But all I can do is find isolated tracks now. It could do with a reissue because it's all so good. And I'm generally not a mad fan of some of the performers but the work comes together as the mythical whole that's greater than the sum of its parts.

my understanding of the term 'legal tender' is that if offered in payment it cannot legally be refused. However, the term refers only to currency notes, not coin. It also does not cover Scottish notes so although they are, I believe, legal tender in Scotland they aren't in England. They are valid currency though so many businesses will accept them.
Not sure about the legality of the signs one sees stating no cash accepted. I suspect it's more a case of card payments preferred. I reckon they're pushing it a bit. And people being generally unaware of the legal situation and preferring "not to make a fuss dear" let it pass.

many here may talk about the Scandinavian model but I don't think so many appreciate the full extent of the changes that would be needed. Too many don't realise, or ignore, what this 'funneling more through the state' means and would baulk at the prospect of higher taxes. We have the fixed notion that we could somehow have a high support structure and at the same time have low taxes. And I'm not just talking personal taxation - there'd need to be greater government involvement across the board. And perhaps a less adversarial political model.
