Offender gets the same sentence, regardless of immigration status; the state and local PD simply don't record immigration status, and don't allow immigration officials access to the jail. No guilty feels, political pressure, over a deportation for a bench warrant issued for too many parking tickets.

They do tell DHS about offenders who commit major offenses, and let them know when they will be discharged from prison. Don't tell anyone, but at least in California, DHS is unreliable when it comes to picking up those people.
