Where is the backbone of any of these "FLOSS" projects? What's the point in me switching from anything else? Why do I try to support these projects that are supposed to oppose big tech, but instead decide to suck the boot if its convenient? I'm so upset. I don't know what to do right now, I'm just so viscerally upset.

It might as well be closed source and controlled by a giant company then.
And when I talked about getting away from tech giants, I more so meant in terms of my usage of their services and supporting them directly in indirectly. If they want to help Linux along, let them. I hope they're funding their own demise.

What are the main differences between the BSDs and Linux? As a humble Mint user, what are some things I should know and how easy do you think it'd be for me to switch over?

There better be an uproar if anything like that comes to pass because that goes against everything open-source stands for. Idc if I'm not a dev, I know that to be true, I didn't go completely FLOSS to have Windows 11 thrown at me in a different way. I wanted to get away from tech giants, focus on community, and be part of a better future, albeit led by much smarter people then I. Those values do not include sucking the boot of AI companies and their billionaires like the world's biggest hypocrite. Seriously, that's what amazes me: some FLOSS people act like this makes any sort of sense or is a justifiable direction to go in. It's insane.

Also, it would be quite the undertaking, but why not fork the Linux kernel if it comes to that? I know plenty of problems will arise, but there's no way all that work can be thrown aside for a less supported system when Linux is JUST starting to get accepted by some non-techy people and is better supported then ever.

The Linux devs (the leaders I assume, as I know nothing about how the team is structured) is pushing for ai review of human written code that then is put into the kernel. I don't agree with it or understand why they'd be for it at all, but I find it hard to imagine throwing out decades of progress, distros, and overall options because the devs did something stupid. Now, if they IMPLEMENT "generated" code, I will be part of the inevitable outraged response, but don't they know this kind of thing isn't welcome? I still can't get over the fact that they thought it was a good idea, and it makes me worry I've been telling people to switch to something which is becoming corrupted at the core as well, even though it being FLOSS is supposed to prevent that shit but I digress.

Apologies for the long messages.
