ACTUALLY YOU KNOW WHAT FUCK IT I CHANGE MY MIND IM STEELMANNING MY ORIGINAL POINT: I don't think everyone who is suffering from mental health issues will be cured or even made better by one singular solution, especially if their mental illness is caused by external factors that that solution doesnt touch. I also don't think sex in itself would cure anyone's depression. But i do think that for a lot of people who suffer from mental illness regularly being intimate with someone they cherish a lot and who cherish them just as much would, on average, at least improve any sort of mental illness that gets made worse by the chronic loneliness and isolation a lot of millenials and gen Zers suffer from.

i understand that telling people "just get laid bro" isnt the solution because a lot of them arent getting laid because of said underlying mental afflictions. but i never said that, i just said "things for a lot of ppl would b better if they got laid regularly". which if we take that as a tongue and cheek way of saying "if ppl had emotionally valued partners with whom to be intimate with" which was what i meant, is still correct. absolutely no one would argue that, while not literally solving every single persons issues, if i could snap my fingers and everyone who was mentally ill would instantly get a loving partner whom they regularly get to smash, there would be a net improvement to a majority of currently mentally ill people.

if anything, this is ultimately one of the things that cbt aims to do, through whatever means it employs. at least for depression it will absolutely aim for patients to partake in anything that gets them out of the house and yields a healthy social structure because that shit is just a net boost to almost everyone and having a partner, for most people is absolutely part of that. and even if you point to low success rates of cbt, id wager that a lot of the failure is a failure of getting to the goals it sets, not the goals in themselves

i disagree idk abt men but if i heard anything from straightoid women its that a lot of them seem to enjoy emotionally competent men (yet there is a lack of them out there which is ur chance 2 game the system snacks!). from own experiences/extrapolating/guessing why the "women like assholes" meme exists, its prolly because a lot of guys that are attractive because they check enough other boxes than the emotional stuff just happen to be assholes. either because they have the dating-marketplace capital to act assholeish with not enough repercussions, or because some other attractive feature about them (prolly confidence, knowledge and deployment of rizz energy) correlates with being an asshole but is not the same or caused by it
