The topic: what actually happens when Bitcoin mining meets off-grid hydro power in rural Africa.<br/><br/>The short version: most off-grid sites run at 20-35% capacity. The rest is wasted. Communities pay 30 to 70 cents per kWh because site economics don't work. Bitcoin mining shows up as an anchor tenant, absorbs excess power, turns off in under a second when demand spikes, and suddenly the whole site is profitable.<br/><br/>Gridless uses revenue sharing instead of a fixed power rate. When hashprice is high, everybody eats. When it drops, everybody tightens up, but nobody turns off. That's the survival mechanism.<br/><br/>Now they're building and buying their own hydro sites through Outpost Power. 2 cents/kWh during payback, under half a cent after year five. Massive grid backlog and surplus here. If the pricing makes sense, this opens the door for serious mining operations in South Africa.
