They&#39;re a red listed species in the UK with only 60-70 breeding pairs. They winter as far away as the eastern Pacific and can live up to 12 years. It&#39;s another country but feels extremely English. It felt insular in a way that, the far more remote, Shetland didn&#39;t. The landscape was great though and we went on some great walks. I don&#39;t know why this is, although I believe under the previous government a number of vaccine &#34;skeptics&#34; got into JCVI. It&#39;s frustrating! I&#39;m also not sure why the cost benefit has changed this year compared to previous ones, given that COVID hasn&#39;t meaningfully changed. Autumn means a change in diet for these birds and an opportunity for photographers. As the weather cools, the birds switch to eating seeds and use the grit to help digest them.<br/><br/>There are only 700 pairs in the UK, but they are quite widespread.<br/><br/>Sept 2025.
