Actually the biggest change from Facebook (I skipped Twitter, tried it for few weeks, then realized that it is only massive group of people screaming at each other and left) is not the freedom (yes, it is, but only theoretically, since I am still posting same things here), but the completely new and fresh mixture of my social bubble. On Facebook I was stuck in a social bubble, that did not feel so good for me and it was not changing anymore. But here everything changed and I feel more free to say anything, because I know, that people in here can handle anything. I like my new social bubble.

I do not think the usual definition of a freedom activist is quite correct. For me, freedom is not a fight. Cant be. And as long as the mind does not let go of the fighting duality, it cannot actually be free, because there is no freedom in a conflict. So for me a true freedom activist is the one who frees himself from his mind. And just by doing that, freedom naturally and quietly spreads around. Just Live and let live, that is the biggest freedom activity.

Trying Creatr (alternative for patreon and herohero)

Here's a sample of the videos I'll try to post behind the satoshiwall in the future (I hope it is working, I'm posting this through Creatr with "public" checked just to try it out - next videos should be locked for a monthly fee of 4000 sat). I don't expect anyone here to be interested in this, the whole Creatr is supposed to be aimed at my Czech speaking Youtube subscribers who may have this as an added bonus to the whole Youtube channel (or as a way to support that Youtube channel regularly, just because they like it). But it's clear to me that without the added value of that czech Youtube channel these videos won't interest anyone.

I wanted to share it with english speaking nostriches anyway, because since I try to live more and more outside the system, Creatr is currently the only way to arrange regular monthly subscriptions, so I'm excited about it. But I don't expect to get any large numbers of subscribers on it even between the Czech youtube audience (although I have a Youtube channel aimed at the anarchist/freedom/nomad social bubble, I still think most of them still don't actively use Nostr and there is still a lot of non anarchists who do not even have any bitcoin).

But that's the way it is. Maybe it will motivate someone from my viewers to try bitcoin, or even Nostr (I guess have to do a video for them "how to create nostr so you can start supporting us on creatr" :D) Anyway, if anyone wants to see short videos of our privat nomadic lives on the road like this (with english subtitles) that are meant to be ONLY bonuses (and not full standalone episodes suitable for Youtube), if you're bored, or if you have too much money, feel free to join our creatr, there will be more videos like this one. But if you speak only english I do not think there will be big enough motivation to do this... but I'm certainly not going to stop you! :D

I'm just trying this thing out and letting you know that there is a cool Nostr service that is the only possible alternative to Patreon for nomads like us, and that's awesome. Even though we are still too early.

I don't really know what to do. I thought that if I pay for 2 relays (nostr.land and nostr.wine), everything will be fine, but it's miserable, lately I have to post new notes 3 times, because they don't catch on any relay and in the end I have to forward the whole note to my mobile and post it via amethyst (which is for me the best client ever, but unfortunately only on mobile, while I need to be able to do my post on PC). And after the posting, I don't know if people see it or not, and it makes me a little sad. I'm still a bit lost in trading relays. But today I found it better to use Brave than Firefox. So I don't know if it could be my privacy settings. Maybe the solution would be to have some client on desktop, that is not in browser, but as standalone software.

Looks like the problem might be Mozzila Firefox. Brave works ...

Evening at the opencast mine. Our friends from the Czech Republic are still with us. They have only a few days off before they have to go back to work (they are not full time van lifers anymore - it is not easy to sustain this lifestile and only few make it for more than 1-2 years). We prepare a meal together and wonder if it would be worth it to buy paint and repaint our scratched van. Meanwhile, we collect wood, make a fire, and eat dinner. Then we play some evening songs (Eda joins the guitar with his firepan drums) and go to bed :).

There are also some downsides to the nomadic hippie life. For example, this morning we had a long discussion about whether to buy two tickets for our very, very favorite band Sigur Rós, who will be playing in Prague next year. Should we not make an exception out of sentimentality? Shouldn't we treat ourselves to something nice once in a while? When we said it like that, our eyes glazed over with temptation, but... sometimes things are not what they seem to be (this is not a "look how poor we are" begging post, read on till the end :) )

After all, we calculated that the 2 tickets would cost us 1/3 of our monthly expenses (for the whole family, including 2 children and a dog). Which means that the choice is suddenly very different. Either we spend this money for 3 hours of beautiful music we love, or we will be able to afford more than 10 days of effortless living somewhere in Turkey or Greece (where we are going this year).

After all the counting we found out that it is not really a downside for us. Because if you imagine that during these 10 days we will probably make 2 campfires full of beautiful music from hippies (lasting much longer than 3 hours), we will swim in the sea, we will have a nice time with children, we will meet new people, we will eat 10 lunches, 10 dinners and 10 breakfasts, and (if you look at it in a strictly chemical way) we will probably stimulate our dopamine and serotonin much more (yes, in smaller doses, but spread in a larger amount of nice little moments), suddenly the choice is without questions.

So yes, there are downsides to the nomadic life. Yes, we cannot afford music concerts, cinema, theater, restaurants etc. But the question is if you really consider it a downside after all. On the one hand, we will never be able to afford to see one of our favorite bands, but on the other hand, we are voluntarily (!) trading that for something we value more. And if you do this conscious counting of your values, it can never be considered a drawback. The only thing is that everyone might get different results (because values are always subjective) and some results are generally considered by society as "poor/bad" while some results as "rich/good", but in the end the only thing that matters is what you consider it to be, not what society does. And that goes both ways, our counting also is not the "right one", because it simply might not work for you. For you the result might be "better work hard 340 days a year and be able to afford any concert I want" and if you choose this voluntarily, it is awesome and we are happy for you. And even if you decide to go to the beautiful concert and we do not, neither of us is loosing. None of us is limited in our options. We both just make conscious choices based on our different values and everything is just the way it should be :).

So is it a downside after all? It cannot be by definition. If we really wanted to go to concerts more than what we have now, we always could sell our campervan, create a company (in other words exchange our time for money) and make as much money as we want. But we do not. Because our counting has different values in it.

You always need to do your own counting, because nobody can decide this for you. You yourself are the biggest expert on your life values and you can never delegate this activity to anybody else. Because nobody else knows all your needs, all your history, and all your context like you do. And until we invent some magical technology, nobody will ever be able to. Not your psychologist, not your parents, not your favorite youtuber, not us, not even the smartest person on the planet, no one will ever have as much information about yourself as you do to make the right calculations about life decisions. And when you realize this, when you turn off all the noise of "what should be right according to society, friends, parents, or anyone else who isn't you," you can never be poor as a result, because every one of your quid pro quo deals will ultimately be profitable. No matter if it outwardly look quite the opposite in the eyes of others.

TLDR: Is nomadic life limiting? Everything is limiting. You always trade something for something. You just have to choose what you value more.

Of course, he needs to be prepared, but on the other hand, I always expected libertarians to defend ANYONE (even Nazis) to have any flag on their house, regardless of their own personal values or opinions. And I am often kind of disappointed by how much this is not the reality, how much the freedom only counts for things "I like" and not so much for things others like and I do not. But this way of thinking brings us back to where we have always been. Freedom of speech either IS or IS NOT. Nothing in between. No exceptions. No opinions. No "yes, but...". No matter what the flag was, even if it was the flag of the FED, the communists, or the worst shitcoin you know. There is simply no room for personal values, when it comes to standing up for freedom of speech, everything should come through the filter, otherwise there is no freedom at all.

Late in the afternoon all the campervans pull out their barbecue props and the preparation for a dinner together begins.

Frequent cooking together outside (several times a week) is another great thing about nomadic life. It suddenly becomes a nice social event, we try to do it as often as possible even when we are only with kids. Because then what doesn't happen is that one parent shuts themselves in the kitchen and is cut off from the others until the food is delivered. Having family and friends around makes it a completely different experience.

Someone brings in the wood, someone picks up a guitar, and someone just makes the whole atmosphere more pleasant with their presence.

Not to mention that kids naturally learn from it. Also, when they're cooped up in a small indoor kitchen with you everything is kind of harder than when they're outside.

But - Is it efficient if everyone is cooking, even though only one might be cooking and the others might be doing something "important"? Absolutely not. Or... it depends on what you're trying to be more effective in. Happiness? Or something else?

Beautiful temporary nomad camp at a lake in Spain. And since 2 out of 4 vans have kids in them (including us), there naturally emerged a little nomad kindergarten. Kids run around, build lego, show (and change) toys together and have a great time :).

The children's attention is divided among a group of people and not just the parents (or worse, a single mother), making parenting a natural and seamless process, as it has always been for nomads. I love these days when kindred spirits meet along the way and form a small temporary community.

In the evening, adults start a fire and bring guitar, so it is like going from one great flow directly to another :).

I actually thought about sharing some of the books that recently changed my life, but shortly after I realized that I would not recommend them to my younger self because they would not have that much impact on him. I also think that everything is as it should be, so there is no motivation to change my younger self, and therefore nothing to recommend. The books have to come at the right time, I can't think of a book I would want to read earlier... So, I would do absolutely nothing.

I'm more of an anarchist than a bitcoiner. Bitcoin is great. It makes a revolution. It opens minds to enormous amount of people. It brought me to anarchy and freedom and changed my life. And since I only use bitcoin 99% of the time, I could theoretically call myself a bitcoin "maximalist",

BUT

I don't want to use that label because I want to keep an open mind. What if at some point in the future a project comes along that is very much in the spirit of anarchy, individual self-sufficiency, unbanking, etc.? - what is the greater value then? Devotion to bitcoin, or devotion to freedom in the bigger picture?
Anyway, of course I understand the position of bitcoin maximalism as a protection against scammers and centralised projects. It's great for newbies not to get burned and ripped off. But at the same time, I hope I'm not such a newbie anymore and don't need to protect myself with some kind of mind enclosure and tunnel vision.

Also, I would be unfair if I said, that crypto never helped me in my life... For example few years ago I was able to create a loan with bitcoin as collateral through defi (when I was traveling far away from home), which helped me to be independent from the banking system and also saved me from selling bitcoin, the value of which I wanted to preserve. So I used bitcoin as collateral, got a loan (a fully anonymous one) in some shitcoin, which I immediately sold for dollars, which I used for food and gas and once I managed to find a job I paid off the loan and didn't lose a satoshi thanks to it.

Of course, nowadays collateralized loans are created over bitcoin (because it's a really cool idea and another step towards independence from the banking system), but back then it only worked in crypto.

And crypto space often functions as a kind of experimental place where different financial tools are tried out while Bitcoin waits to see what works and what fails enormously and after few years calmly implements what worked well, but if it weren't for the crypto world being the crazy wild west experimenting with the craziest ideas, eventually bitcoin would also be impoverished because it would either have to experiment on its own or it wouldn't get to the interesting possibilities it has learned from few successful crypto projects (best example are again the collateralized loans over btc)

So yes, I am into bitcoin. But at the same time, I don't want to close my mind with ideological wars. Right now I'm using only Bitcoin because I feel bitcoin is the best. But once it's not the best for whatever reason, I'll logically use something else. If it weren't the case, then that would mean it was just a religion all the time.

In my country we have seen it 40 years ago with communism which was teaching kids Karl Marx and which was delivering basic communist ideas as the best (and only possible). And now we see it with democracy. I was not able to make it work. Whenever I finish the post and click on "Schedule", nothing happens (and when I go to see "All Posts" "Scheduled", there is nothing). The same happens when trying to save draft etc. The button just does not react. Login through alby, browser Brave (tried turning off brave shields and uBlock Origin, did not help). When I have to option, I will try another browser.

Does in any NOSTR client exist an option to create a post in advance and plan the actual public posting into the future? Like on Youtube when you upload the video and plan the premiere 2 days later? It would be great feature for travelers like me.

I could always prepare more posts ahead of time when I'm on public wifi somewhere and then go offline for the next 10 days - those posts would automatically add themselves according to the scheduled date, and then 10 days later I'd get public wifi again to upload more posts (from the recent 10 days). Basically, I'd have the classic "posting every day", except everything would be 10 days late (which is also nice for privacy) and free as far as internet is concerned. Actually it would be great not only for internet, but even for my organisation and effectivity :), I love this feature on youtube, where I can create 10 shorts in advance, upload them on public wifi and set premiere later so they go public automaticaly during the next month, every week one short.

I guess I used too many clients and too meny relays and I am going to need to develop better and more sustainable behavior. V dnešním videu proto děláme malé historicko-kulturní okénko u ohně, v němž si prozkoumáme co je to vlastně za škatulku, kdo do této škatulky spadá, s kým tuto škatulku budeme sdílet a zda-li to ve výsledku není naopak škatulka v níž člověk spíš chce být (po boku Federica Felliniho, Richarda Feynmena, Beatles, Steva Jobse, Billa Gatese, nebo velkých myslí 21. století vzešlých z Kalifornie a Sillicon Valley).
Aneb je skutečně tak špatné být na jedné hromadě s ostatními lidmi, co využili psychedelika k osobnímu růstu, nebo je to ve výsledku vlastně docela dobrá společnost, možná mnohem lepší, než být na hromadě třeba s konzumenty alkoholu?
Nakonec dojdeme k tomu, že jde spíš o nefunkčnost škatulek jako takových a nelze říct ani jedno.
Pokud vás téma neoslovuje, ve videu jsou kapitoly, takže lze přeskočit rovnou na další otázku týkající se více vztahu a dodávky.
Budeme se věnovat špíně a úklidu v dodávce, ale především i ve vztahu.

Looks like I'm gonna have to stop using NOSTR. It seems that in the last month or so (roughly since I started actively posting from my travels) NOSTR has eaten up so much data that it's financially unsustainable for me.

I only operate on local 4G SIM cards when I travel and don't have access to public wifi very often - I'm not a digital nomad going from coffee shop to coffee shop and coworking space to coworking space, 95% of my time is spent somewhere in the woods or desert.

I'm terribly sorry about this, as NOSTR is my favorite platform and if I had any real enthusiasm for growth anywhere, it was here (unlike Twitter and Facebook). So if anyone happens to have any ideas on how to avoid this huge data consumption (like only using 1 app? Or just on a laptop in a browser? Or somehow remotely? Or do some magic with relays?), I'd love to get back to actively posting on NOSTR. But I'm shutting down for now, because realistically I don't have the money for more internet this month, and next time it'll be a decision between food and internet and guess what wins based on the opinions of the rest of the family :D.

Anyway, a lot of people have been asking me about showing our daily activities in the van.
Although routine is quite hard to find when on the road, there are some things whose essence is, give or take, repetitive. We don't go shopping every Wednesday at the same supermarket down the street (each shopping is a whole new adventure), but the very core of the activity remains. I'd say the truth, but not radicalized. I think freedom can be described without ridiculing or judging the other side. That freedom doesn't need propaganda. So I would say that taxes are forced by violence, but I would also add that the people pushing for taxes are not necessarily evil, they just think that violence and a little bit of unfreedom is needed to run society, while there are also people (us) who think that it can be done without violence and with full freedom, and these two groups are now arguing a little bit about how it will be and it is not quite clear yet. If the non-violent and free way is really as good as we think, there will be no need to defend it :). An unvarnished description of reality will suffice. Maybe. Dont know , jist an idea :).

Ye, it is always good to be prepared (by having a plan and emotions all set) to make the most out of both scenarios. Up or down. To be able to find something positive in both cases and to be able to grow from them. Actually, I would be happy with both options right now, since both can have their positives and negatives - nothing is just black and white “good”, not even bull market. The worst scenario for me would be the end of bitcoin volatility and stabilisation of the price somewhere around 40000 forever, i do not have a plan for this.
