Diversity prefs mean &#34;interview women, nigs and browns first, then White/Asian men (many of whom are still not fit for the work)&#34; but when your interview time cost is massive and you have 350 &#34;qualified&#34; applicants, there&#39;s no chance of getting to the 10-20 White or Asian guys who could do the job well.<br/><br/>It still amazes me that people are failing FizzBuzz and the solution to this is to have people grind score on bullshit like leetcode or getting commits into big github projects, all of which are gameable and generally useless metrics of skill. My first experience that made me consider it was with a very good friend I grew up around who wanted to learn to program so I&#39;d help him with it. We&#39;d be going over very, very basic logic (literal if-then logic, allowing user input in console apps) and I&#39;d coach him through it but they just could never make logical next-step. I&#39;d eventually show them enough examples that they seemed to get it and then he&#39;d hit the same sort of problem a few days later and not be able to recognize that this was the if-then thing again. Maybe with enough repetition, he&#39;d learn to recognize the pattern, but the larger abstractions were going to take forever, if he&#39;s even capable of them at all. He gave up after I stopped having the time to walk him through basically everything and after I refused to write code for him for his online classes.<br/><br/>I think knowing someone like that probably helps us reconcile that there are barriers with IQ that you just literally can&#39;t overcome with empathy and feeling bad. Then we do evil pattern recognition. Also, thanks for the image.
