I just mowed my backyard on Sunday. I had a little window in between rain and it had dried enough that I was able to cut down what had grown into a jungle as well. The rain and heavy dew had the grass grow pretty tall and like you, I couldn't mow.

When I finally did, I had to make two passes, one with the deck raised all the way up and even then I kind of tilted it a little so I wouldn't bog down my little electric motor.

Then I went back again at a lower setting.

I honestly don't know. I've been raised mostly a city gal. I've had a little bit of living in the country and have done a lot of camping but never really worried about ticks enough to warrant any more than just doing a good once over after being in the woods.

Last week I called in to my local NPR radio station while it was interviewing my former Dem U.S. rep.

I got so frustrated and angry that I yelled at her. I expressed what I think many of us are feeling and said, "Why haven't the Dems been able to unify in the House to shutdown funding for ICE? We had SEVEN Dems vote in favor of giving ICE an extra 10 billion dollars. That's billion with a B!!!"

I continued by listing two notables, Henry Cuellar and Vincente Gonzales. Two fucking Mexican American reps voting in favor of giving ICE 10 billion extra dollars to snatch Mexican American citizens off the streets.

Her response was what I expected. Blah blah blah, I didn't vote for it. I hear what your saying. Many are frustrated...

Frustrated? People are getting executed in the damn streets!

The House is currently voting to end the government shutdown. This is the only leverage Dems have to stop ICE and even then we need every single Dem to vote against AND we need three republicans to cross over. We're fucked in this country.

Grab a cuppa. This is a long one.

One of things I've learned from transitioning is how my relationship to feminism has changed. And I've also learned about myself from my view of the world as a lesbian. A lot of this education has come from cis and trans women, both straight, gay and bi, here on Mastodon and out in the world.

I still have a lot to learn but the fundamental thing that has sunk in is decentering men. There was the "choose the bear" moment. There continues to be "men aren't lonely enough" statements. There are a constant responses of "not all men but always a man" and other examples of decentering men that I come across on a daily basis. It seems women have had it.

And here's where Tyla's post intersects. It's eye opening to realize her take that taking the pill and then the shot was the easy part of transition. It's true. It's the unlearning of all the crap from the before times that is the mind fuck. That's the hard part. And it's the unlearning all the wrongness that Tyla spoke of that's healing.

As I've learned to decenter men and lose the idea of everything revolving around the male gaze, I've learned the value of women isn't measured by how attractive she is, how youthful she is, how fuckable she is.

It's measured by SO many other aspects of our character. And when women lift each other up?... when we compliment each other and cheer each other on and all the stuff'; it hits different. That's the good stuff.

It's then.... then we begin to learn our about ourselves. We learn our attractiveness and fuckability from a woman's perspective, gay or straight, which is exponentially different from that of a man's, is undeniably meaningful to our emotional and mental well being.

I know I bash the BizPartner a lot and vent out my frustrations about him... a lot! But I've mentioned a couple of times that he does have some thoughtful aspects of his character.

Yesterday, he organized a birthday party for me because I said I was taking the day off today. Yep. Today I mark another lap around the sun.

I know The Rookie lent a helping hand because she certainly picked the cake and card. But bringing his miniature Marshall amp bluetooth speaker into the kitchen and the gifts I received? Has the BizPartner written all over it.
He got me a tiny violin that has a button I can push to make it play a sad song for when someone is being a First World Problem Crybaby. And he got me big That's What She Said Button that says just that, in Michael Scott's voice, when the opportunity arises to give a well placed "that's what she said." After working 12 feet apart for the last ten years, I guess he knows me pretty well. Well almost pretty well. 🤭

Yep. So birthday today. I'm gonna go to lunch and get enchiladas with the wife and her bestie at a favorite nearby restaurant. Maybe wander around some of the stores a little and window shop.

I've got to prep a little more for the below-freezing temps we'll be getting tomorrow but after that?....

I've seen several people posting about the UK's Girlguiding decision to ban trans girls from being able to join and participate. If I'm not mistaken, Girlguiding is the equivalent of the U.S.'s Girl Scouts of the USA.

The Girl Scout policy not only to allow little trans girls to join but it's also inclusive of girls who are gender expansive, enby and intersex. It is one of the few bright spots regarding trans people in the U.S. And every year at Girls Scout Cookie Season time, Erin in the Morning produces a list of Girl Scout troops that have trans girls as members, where I buy a box or two or ten.

Girlguiding could learn a thing or two from its U.S. counterpart.

But here's some info I've found on witch hunts that seems to be somewhat repeating itself as it has time and time again. I'm so fucking angry and so upset about the school shooting today and MAGAts jumping on the fact the shooter was transgender. They are immediately going to their "it isn't guns that kill..." and "a good guy with a gun..." and all their bullshit instead of saying that we NEED to stop allowing such easy access to unbelievably efficient killing tools.

They offer up their bullshit thoughts and prayers and put aside allllllll the fucking shit that can prevent mass shootings like: funding access to mental health care, strict gun reform legislation and taking lobby money out of politics.

They'd rather take the easy route and blame a trans girl, who it looks like may have been an ex-student of the school? I suspect had unaddressed mental health issues? Who the fuck knows but they're focusing on her instead of the real cause of mass shootings. Easy access to efficient killing tools and lack of access to mental health care.

She's being misgendered from every media outlet's story I've come across and the whole fucking thing has me really upset. Those children didn't have to die. The survivors didn't have to get maimed and injured. None of this should have happened.

Gawd fucking damn it! I feel like every day is a punch to the gut. Things are really heavy right now. I feel like it's hard to move. And every friggin' day in this timeline some kind of bullshit happens that just feels like someone must have dropped a Junior Mint into The Large Hadron Collider while it was spinning and broke the time space continuum and now here we are.

Hey everyone.
You may have heard about that monster earthquake that occurred on the east coast of Russia near the tip of the Alaskan chain of islands.

Well it's causing tsunamis that are expected to hit countries all around the Pacific including our state of Hawaii.

I was able to touch base with our Beige sister TayFoNay, Pet Detective (npub1ran…dnlr) on the back channel who is about an hour from landing there as of this Beige It! time/date.

Just in case she can't do it because of internet lag or outage, she asked if I could let all our Beige peeps and other friends know she's fine. Her flight is still scheduled to land. Where they're staying is up on a hill on the east side of the island and except for an expected challenge of getting there all should be fine.

Probably wouldn't hurt to throw out some good mojo, mutter a few incantations and protection spells plus a few Beige Blesses just for good measure though.

During the past couple of weeks I've seen more and more posts on other platforms where people are telling others to "arm themselves", "when do start we start firing on these non-uniformed, masked kidnappers?" "We're sitting on a powder keg" and other references to armed conflict within the U.S.

Fuhhhhhhh.

I'm not really ready for something like that should things devolve into warfare. And by that I mean physically ready. I'm not sure I ever could be battlefield ready anymore. It's very physically demanding to carry the necessary equipment for small unit combat operations; food, water, ammo, a weapon, other gear, etc.

Things are getting really outta hand. I think those ICE cosplayers and hired bounty hunters are gonna meet with some folks who have nothing left to lose anymore. Okay... one more installment of "How to Girl" before my hormoniversary tomorrow.

If you haven't seen these and wondering what the heck I'm talking about the five year mark of me starting hormone therapy is tomorrow. And I've been reflecting on some things I've learned on this ride.

From my cisters I’ve learned of The Girl Code. It’s unwritten although entries online would have you believe it is. It isn’t necessarily handed down but it is. You know it when you see it. There are some aspects that are vague and others that are as strong as if written on stone tablets.

These are some notable aspects for me.
— Women lift women up.  We encourage each other and inspire each other.

— Women take care of each other and look out for each other.

— Women don’t let a guy (or for the lebesians… a woman) get in the way of friendships.

These are just a few of the things that I've learned and I find it really affirming and special that I've had other women do some of these things for me.

I'm going to assume you accidentally left out the word "healthcare" after "trans" and "a medical necessity." I'm also going to assume that English isn't your first language because the syntax of your sentence/question isn't lining up and is confusing as hell.

While the U.S. was indeed arguing on behalf of transgender children and their guardians, the case isn't about whether trans healthcare is a freedom of choice. Which by the way, I honestly don't know what the hell you mean by that. "Is trans a complete freedom of choice?" What the fuck does that mean?

The bottom line is it shouldn't have mattered whether trans kids or trans healthcare was involved in the case or not. This is about the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment of the United States. Should the government be able to pass legislation that denies citizens access to healthcare based on ANY criteria?

In my opinion the answer is a resounding no. It doesn't matter if one is receiving treatment for gender dysphoria, diabetes or cancer. The court failed the American people and in my opinion this is going to open the door and set precedent for dangerous policies against all citizens of the country.

Today the Supreme Court issued its ruling on the United States. v Skrmetti and it's heartbreaking. I thought that Chase Strangio gave a solid argument for the plaintiffs but the conservative judges thought differently.

And so now this ruling sets a precedent that will not only negatively affect trans teens but could, and most likely will, affect trans adults and their ability to access gender affirming healthcare.

This is a terrible blow to the Equal Protection and Privacy Clauses of the 14th Amendment.

We in the #trans community don't have very many elders. We don't have many examples of trans people who have been transitioning for more than 30 or 40yrs. I can only think of three: actor Alexandra Billings and activist Mardi Pieronek are two who both have been transitioning for about 40+ yrs.

And if you wondering why we don't have very many trans folks who started transitioning in the 80s and earlier it's because the zeitgeist at that time wrecked our community. To have someone like Jazz Jennings or began social transition in single digits of age and then medically transition as a late teen???... we don't have people who did that who are now 50, 60 or 70 years old.

BUT... we have do have one of those three I know of here. I'm so thankful that we have one of our beautiful, amazing trans elders here on Mastodon giving voice to what we, who only recently began transitioning, can expect as we continue down this road. She often gives us a first hand account of our history, shows that we have to keep fighting and encourages us to know we can in fact have joy throughout our lives.

That quote in the first post and so many examples throughout the book made me realize I’ve never had that ever, in a romantic relationship.

I have never felt safe to be truly vulnerable with a romantic partner. I mean hell, just tonight I was criticized about how long it took for me to give myself my shot. That struggle I have was used to make me feel like shit.

I’ve never felt like I could truly give all of myself without some criticism or fear of something being used against me. In fact, all my romantic relationships have very much been the opposite of feeling safe and secure and lifted up. It’s rather depressing to be honest.

And while I loved this book and smiled so much throughout reading it, now that I’m done... I’m a rather sad at the realization I just mentioned.

I finished the book I was reading called “I Really Do” by Emily K. Hardy and while it was somewhat predictable and a rather cheesy, romcom there were a LOT of heavy things in it as well that aren’t necessarily just things queer folk go through.

— physical and emotional trauma
— dealing with feelings of inadequacy/body image
— healthy/non-healthy romantic relationships

It’s that last one that was big for me.

Most of this book dealt with the two main characters, Anna and Brooke, navigating what was a fake relationship all while we're unsure if Anna is even into girls or not. As they do this though we see them communicate so well with each other. They reassure each other when things got anxious or scary.

There is a LOT of consent even when we think they may be just friends… Is this okay? Does this feel good? Can I do this for you? type of communication. There are a lot of examples of comforting touch as well; hugs, hand holding, leaning back to chest, legs pressed against each other while sitting at dinner. A lot of it came from Anna who is unbelievably SO sweet and very protective of Brooke.

But those moments of consent, comfort and touch… *sigh*
they made me ache for something like that. It made me wonder if there are really even relationships like this. I mean I know this is fiction and these characters were trying to make a new relationship appear real and believable.

But then this quote.

I just got off the phone with a client who began by asking what he needs to do if he closes his business for a couple of months. As we talked he disclosed that he's been having treatment for prostate cancer. Because of his age, stage of cancer and other variables that are considered for his treatment, the doc is using medicine to suppress his testosterone level... apparently, so much that it's undetectable. And because the human body requires at least one dominant sex hormone or other serious issues will occur, he will require estrogen therapy.

This is the same exact treatment that transwomen go through for gender dysphoria. We suppress our testosterone and increase our estrogen. The difference is our mental, emotional, physical (and for those who have a spiritual inclination) our spiritual well being is drastically improved. For my client this is NOT happening.
He described strong feelings of mental and emotional distress because of what the medicine is doing to his body to treat the cancer. He said his body is "becoming like a woman's."

He has developed gender dysphoria. In not so many words he said it. He said "I understand much better now what transgender people must experience because I don't feel right in my body." He continued by saying "I'm alive but at what cost."

I wish EVERY transphobe would go through this to find this revelation.

I remember when I started questioning my gender identity, then at the realization I am trans and even after the first couple of years of hormone therapy; #TransDayOfVisibility came and went and I still wasn't presenting anywhere as a woman. I was afraid, fearful and even after a couple of years of medical transition felt I was in an awkward physical stage of transition that I just couldn't bring myself to show myself to the world.

But I so desperately wanted people to see me. I wanted to be visible with other trans people on this day.

There are lot of our trans siblings who don't feel safe being visible for whatever reason, especially now. You want to show yourself but for whatever reason feel you can't. I've been there. We've all been there.

But WE see you. Your trans sisters, trans brothers and enby siblings SEE you.

I have a rather sad #caturday post today. This sweet boy is no longer in the physical realm with us. His kitty cat dementia and other health issues just became too much for him.

During the February Album Writing Month there are a lot of challenges, prompts, collaboration opportunities and games to help fuel creativity to get some songwriting done.

I did one that I knew was going to push me WAY out of my comfort zone. I signed up for a four person, a cappella challenge where I was randomly placed with a lyricist and three other vocalists.

It turned out way better than i possibly could have imagined. While it is a little pitchy in places, it's still quite beautiful. It sounds like a church hymn. Well, that is if your sacred space... if your church is out in nature. It's a song about birdies!!!
