I think wallet changes and lack of options made things harder. Fountain is still the only free option for sending boosts. Options for receiving boosts have gotten better though.

I have an IRC bot for sending/receiving podpings that I could probably turn into a website or add to the PI website.

My dad watches a bunch of AI videos and didn't know they were AI until I pointed it out. The videos all have the same format of an AI voice over stock/AI photos and videos.

The voice overs are actually really good and make it hard to tell that they're AI until they mispronounce something. For example, one of the videos pronounced 'Dodge HEMI' as 'Dodge HE-MAI'.

The videos sorta mimic to the Ken Burns-style documentary format, which is probably why older people fall for them easier.

I tried to keep it pretty close to what Partytime outputs except for database ids and separate tables for chapters, transcripts, etc (since it has no item ids).

Some of the Partytime rules might need some cleaning up too. For example, it does string trims on newsfeed titles and links but not descriptions, but does do trims on item descriptions and itunes titles but not regular titles.

I used Claude to build the previous version with tests. Then I thought it would be a fun challenge to delete the code that Claude added and have GPT 5.1 rebuild it from the tests, which worked out better than I thought. Try loading Alby Hub app on your computer and use the secret words to set it up. You shouldn't need to open a channel to see if it has a balance or not.

That would've been the 12 secret words it had you write down when setting up that hub. They let you recover the hub if it crashes or you accidentally delete it. Without them, you're pretty much SOL for ever recovering it.

The US isn't great at following "international law" either, especially with the current president. Should I prepare to be cut off sometime in the future?

It does make me worry about how dependent we are on Alby. Most of the apps still use the Wallet API rather than NWC and I wouldn't be able to use any of them if you blocked my account.

I can see Brian's point. It would suck to not be able to use Lightning with the podcast apps because they depend on Alby's Wallet API that is geoblocked in his country.

At the same time, there are ways to solve it if he wants to solve it. NWC seems like the clearest solution. Complaining doesn't solve anything.

The only thing that changed was Alby dropping their free wallet offering and leaving us with Fountain as the only free option left.

We need more wallet options and unfortunately most of the options only support LNURL. Thus the push to adopt LNAddress and LNURL.

Alby frankly did us a favor. We should've never been so dependent on one wallet and we should've gone through this process years ago.

The deprecation notice you pointed to was for SendPayment is replaced with SendPaymentV2. Keysend works V2 and here's the Helipad code to prove it: https://github.com/Podcastindex-org/helipad/blob/main/src/lightning.rs#L188-L271

The LND doc change you pointed to seems to be a correction. I worry about it going the other way and being fully non-sovereign and putting the same banks who debank people for their speech back in charge.

It's not deprecated though. The only thing they deprecated is the particular SendPayment call that Dr Brian of London (Dev)🖥 (npub1jzz…avap) was using https://api.lightning.community/api/lnd/lightning/send-payment/index.html

That's because they created a new SendPaymentV2 call to replace it https://api.lightning.community/api/lnd/router/send-payment-v2

Both RPC calls should be able to do keysends.

LND did default keysend to off in newer versions but they never said it was deprecated or that they're removing it.

It seems like it runs on the Ethereum EVM rather than Lightning. Many of the stablecoins are ERC-20 tokens, so that makes sense.
