With every family I'm helping to get started on food gardening, I spend some time talking to them, first. I gauge how much time they're willing to spend, nurturing their starter garden planters. I ask what kind of food plants they enjoy eating the most. After chatting, I have a better idea of what seeds to sow for their mixed planters. There's no point in sowing seeds of foods they don't like to eat/unable to tend for.

Most of the seeds sowed will be for my 3&3 annual system (keep 1/3, sell 1/3, give away 1/3).
Some seeds sowed today will be to help 4 local BIPOC families with limited space to have their own first mini food gardens. I'm making a few mixed food planters for them & providing a simple care guide. I'm planting easy care food plants to help them gain more confidence in growing their own food. I'm super grateful that you put your neck out, in public, to be an anti-ableist & anti-misogyny comrade. I know many folks avoid doing that because they see how people like you & me & anyone else who doesn't tolerate ableism & misogynistic BS, very openly - are treated.
It's very difficult for me to trust some others who will only say they support me & they choose to keep their support private - even when they have societal privileges as white men. I was having some issues with the man who was doing Mom's taxes today because he wasn't really listening to my questions for clarity. He kept interrupting me, giving answers that I wasn't asking about. I was talking to Mom in Teochew & relaying some of her questions to him too. One Asian woman overheard everything. She came out to help us out & she put the man in his place 🙏

It was a senior tax preparer & she's the office manager too. I found out, serendipitously, that she's a #Gaginang - fellow #Teochew person! Meeting another Teochew person who speaks the language, in Victoria, is like finding a unicorn - it's very rare! The last time I found another Teochew in the public wilds was over 30 years ago!

Mom & I loved talking to her in our mutually shared language. It turns out that she's also a refugee from South Vietnam & her family has some roots near my Mom's village too. Amazing serendipity!

I'm so happy to meet & befriend Teochew person, today! I'm beaming with happy feelings 🥰

Last time Mario & I saw each other was 2022 -> we were chasing Justin Trudeau around BC Leg, trapped BC MLAs inside; they had to leave their cars & be snuck into chauffered cars through side doors. Then, Trudeau's private driver called cops on me - for standing 10 feet away, saying absolutely nothing & just mean glaring at her 🤣
Cops told her to just move the vehicle because I broke no laws by just glaring.

Horgan & Trudeau had to move their meeting room 3 times that evening 😅 Every time we found the room they were in, we gathered outside & by doors - making a ton of noise. They kept running from one meeting room to another, like cockroaches when light is shined upon them. It was pretty hilarious how much cops they sent to try to get us to stop making noise & chasing dirty politicians inside. Absolutely ridiculous how terrified politicians are when citizens demand public transparency, public accountability & to stop being colonial capitalist wankerbutternoodles.

My Mom was running with Dad, my Uncles, my Aunts(except for big Auntie, who was still fighting near Da Nang), my Grandpa (who brought his pitchfork) & all of our neighbours who had been bombed in Cholon. OK. I'm ready to continue this thread a bit more, today. Starting with day the US invaders fled, although some were still left behind for a few years after 1975 official pull-out.

The smell of firepowder, mixed with napalm, filled Saigon city air, all that day, April 30th, 1975. 5 days prior, my parents & most of our patriarch family, had received news that US is pulling out & Vietnam will be reunited with North & South. We were in a local displaced refugees camp, within the city, at the time. All the adults started making Molotovs to prepare to chase US & domestic sellouts out of Saigon. Women made rock-swing weapons from scarves & rocks, to hit US terrorists on their way out. There was a lot of rage because many of us witnessed our loved ones murdered by US invaders & their puppet domestic terrorists. People were out for blood vengeance.

Mom made me a baby metal army helmet & baby body plates from scrap metal. Our whole patriarch family hit the streets. Me, on my Mom's back. Thousands of Vietnamese people came out on the streets, waiting to give US invaders a lively exit out of our lands. The first US invader truck was ambushed by angry citizens in sandals & my parents said that you couldn't see the truck after 5 minutes because so many people had surrounded it. The US terrorists in that truck were beaten to death & left on road. The citizens ran down the street, looking for more US invaders.

I was suspended from school for 2 weeks. The bully got off with less than a week. He never bullied me or anyone else again though. In grade 9 - many years later, he ended up approaching me at jr. high & apologized for picking on me when we were younger. He confessed that he never really had anything against me or any other POC kids but his parents hated people who weren't white & taught him to hate POC kids. His parents were abusive to him behind closed doors & he ended up in foster care. I was approached by him, with a genuine apology & we talked for 2 hours straight. This was 4 years into his foster family life. He got help/support for the CA endured & had changed a lot. I hugged him afterwards & told him that I forgive him. I told him that I'm thankful for his apology & that I'm sorry he had such awful parents because all kids deserve to have loving parents & a safe home.

Sometimes, we are lucky enough to make peace with our former bullies.

I told my client the story of how one of my galpals is obsessed with stealing condiment packets from BC Ferries while aboard any BC ferry or inside their terminals. She mostly aims for the Coffee Mate packets but will also stuff her purse/pockets with other condiments & wood/plastic utensils too. Her reasoning is that we pay a lot of taxes & for ferry service fees, so taking extra condiments/utensils won't be hurting the corporation. When she first told me this personal fact, we were in our 30s, en route to Pender Island for a galpals retreat. We chatted about our shared PTSD triggers(including some of my Aunts/Uncles) that have been going off more often since the start of this year with increased US/Israel attacks on multiple sovereign nations in ME, how to take care of each other more with emotional overload times & sharing our feelings to unload/not be too repressed.

Of all the illegal, never tested before on humans weaponry used by the US, the deadliest was #AgentOrange. I'm shaking, remembering seeing some of my family members, when I went back in 90s. Dying. Deformed babies/kids/adults in our matriarch village. Our lands/waters still too toxic to be safe.

Hidden under camouflaged booby traps, the tunnels provided our resistance fighters with supply/comms routes, living quarters & storage for food/weapons. Air and water were scarce, insects, scorpions, and rodents aplenty, it didn't deter them.
