if nobody runs their own bitcoin instance/node, bitcoin is not magic, its rules are not set in stone. if you are not saying "i verified the chain with these rules and i believe this is the state state of chain" yourself, then you are trusting someone else, thats basically paper bitcoin. if that happens, states can change the rules of bitcoin as "updates from devs", as much as they please.

For two decades, centralisation was sold as efficiency.
Put the compute, storage, networking and operational talent into a handful of enormous facilities. Harden the perimeter. Add redundancy. Build another region.
That model works in peacetime.
But long-range precision-strike systems are improving in accuracy, reach and conventional destructive power. A hyperscale data centre now presents exactly what modern targeting systems prefer:
A fixed location.
A large thermal and electrical signature.
Known network dependencies.
High strategic value.
Enormous downstream consequences from a single successful strike.
The more critical workloads concentrated inside one facility, the more valuable the target becomes.
Defending it creates an ugly economic curve. Physical security, air defence, backup power, network redundancy, sovereign risk controls and hardened construction may eventually cost more than the efficiency gained through centralisation.
And even then, defence cannot eliminate geography.
Decentralised systems invert the problem.
Distributed chains, independent verification nodes, replicated state and geographically dispersed compute do not make infrastructure invulnerable. They make it harder to destroy through one decisive attack.
The future security question will not be:
How strongly can we defend the data centre?
It will be:
Why did we place so much civilisation-critical computation inside one painted target?
Centralisation optimises for operational efficiency.
Decentralisation optimises for survival.
In an age of precision weapons, resilience may become more valuable than scale.
