The Curious Case of Australian Bewilderment

Policy change announcements are not announcements.

They are the intent of the Leviathan briefly surfacing for air.

By the time the public sees the grey bureaucratic fin breach the water, the sensible citizen should already have packed a towel, a sandwich, two forms of identification, and a small note explaining that they were once under the impression they lived in a country.

Australia, being a mostly harmless continent with unusually aggressive paperwork, has developed a fascinating habit: it does not usually say “leave.”

That would be rude.

Instead, it says:

“Your eligibility settings have been updated.”

“Your pathway has been reconsidered.”

“Your category has been refined.”

“Your access is subject to future legislative instruments.”

And somewhere, in a basement designed by a committee that disliked both sunlight and citizens, a Vogon reconstruction crew quietly stamps the phrase:

PLEASE VACATE THE PREMISES OF BELONGING.

The public, naturally, remains bewildered.

This bewilderment is important. It is the lubricant of empire. Policies are passed under distraction; intent manifests later as enforcement. One day it is a speech about values, the next it is social-media vetting, welfare exclusion, visa caps tied to housing, entry bans, and powers to stop people before they even arrive. Recent Australian debate has included proposals to tie migration to housing completions, restrict non-citizen access to welfare/NDIS, increase screening and deportation powers, and even temporary exclusion orders affecting citizens in rare security cases.

This is how the Leviathan moves.

Not with tanks.

With eligibility.

Not with exile.

With “integrity of the system.”

Not with conquest.

With a PDF.

And when the PDF floats, glowing faintly in the harbour like a dead jellyfish of administrative destiny, the correct response is not surprise.

The correct response is:

“Ah. The Vogons have arrived.”

Australia was not asked to leave Australia.

Australia was asked to understand that Australia may now be conditional.

And that, frankly, is much worse.

Also FYI you are using nostr.band as inbox and outbox and that relay went bust a few months ago.

Maybe add nos.lol and nostr.mom to your public outbox and public inbox.

Since you are there, also reset your index and search relays to the defaults (just press the button)
