If you loaded the attestation with PoW (which clients already have), that would discourage cheating. You could increase the difficulty to signal higher amounts, even.
How could we do public zap receipts without involving a trusted third-party (like the Lightning server) or tracking the transaction? Could the recipient issue the receipt, in response to a message from the payer?
It seems like the receipt is primarily to the advantage of the recipient. If they had to expend some cost, effort, or PoW to publish the receipt, they'd be disinclined to fake it. They'd also be disinclined to bother publishing receipts for 1 sat zaps, which would put upward pressure on the zap amounts. Then you wouldn't need to include the amount, as the amount would tend be above a certain threshhold, so that the receipt merely existing is some proof of the minimum value of the zap.
Just pondering this. It seems mostly like an economic and cryptographic conundrum, which means it can perhaps be solved for.
But maybe that's a stupid idea. 😂🤷🏻♀️
Oof. Trying to stop open dev discussions on Nostr. Not cool, man.
@npub1kva…tkzv Can you help me with this? There seems to be some block on my address. Other Minibits addresses work fine, but mine throws up an error.
What @npub1jvx…7yqz said. Our entire project is run that way and it really takes the stress off.
I have HTTP relays, already, bro. Try to keep up. 🤣
Getting rid of json would be silly, though.
Even if you have the option, you have to rely on the server respecting that option. They are free to just ignore it and publish anyway.
They thought a book about the slave era would not contain racism? 🤦♀
It is, actually. I thought I was the only one who had read it. 😂
I feel like a weight has been lifted. I no longer have to pretend to care about which money you use and it feels good, man.
Use whatever. Do whatever.

Lightning is more private than most payment methods. And it's dirt-cheap. And you aren't left holding a melting ice cube.
Those are client handlers. I'm trying to implement some. We'll see, if they work, in a minute.
I aggregate the profile addresses with the payto addresses and render them all as payment targets.

I'm currently working on it, tho. To remove the zaps.

It's in my payment targets and visible on my profile page on some clients.

Yes, but this is about signaling which one you prefer people use.
The user can define what they want in an event. But if they define nothing, the client falls back to defaults, so that the functionality is not broken. Same way we do relay selection.
Welcome to dev steerage. We have the most fun, down here in the server room. 🤭
If you add an SP address to your payment targets (like I just did), clients can simply default to that.
You can't opt-out of npub-based SP addresses, but you can opt-in to a different address and publically signal that.
Whoa. #Monero Bros are big tippers. 👀
Public zaps a voluntary posting of the transaction amount. They aren't a poll of actual wallet addresses.
Isn't this just a design choice? Don't offer on-chain zaps as an option unless the zap amount greater dust.
Yeah. I have kids tho, and they like me and have jobs.
The countries sending us migrants are facing a demographic crash. They suffer more, when their kids leave.
@npub1226…grkj this is what I meant. I really need profile data and metadata like 10x faster and constantly up to date. 10 minutes turn-around on a replacement, max.
At least for the currently-active npubs.
What we got now is rookie numbers. Any more users and it will take hours to propagate this stuff.
The events are cached, so it sometimes needs a refresh to speed up the update
It's Imwald. Takes a minute to load, the first time.
I can see yours, on my client.

It's primarily a land-use tax in exchange for holding title, so long as you agree to the common law, mediation rules, and help provide for a common defense.
I understand that anarchists don't want a common defense and therefore also don't want taxes, but this is the way they medieval (and modern) city-states work. It's effectively what a state simply is.
You become a Bürger or Freibauer by paying the tax according to how much real estate you control, and by personally fighting (or providing fighters from your family or staff) when the city is attacked. And helping repair the walls and other defenses, or paying for that repair, etc.
Everything else modern states do are add-ons, but defense is the one thing a state cannot abandon without ceasing to be a state because then it cannot defend the borders that define the territory.

Most people just look at follows.
I saw it first time on the client from @npub1use…k5ks.
I just got laid off, as a software tester. The customers are also cutting the dev budgets. They're vibing everything, now.
These were industrial customers, by the way.
They're vibe-coding the controllers for electronics, like stoves, cars, airplanes.

I don't think he sees any of us.
I got the UX down really cool, now. Spent all day hammering at it.
Thanks, for helping me test it.
More proof that Nostr UX is underrated. I would have thought having a link is automatic, but they don't have a cryptographic ID, so you have to enter a string and keep typing in numbers until you get a green check, that nobody else has it yet. And they don't use e-mail because more than one account can have the same e-mail.
It isn't that bad, if the link doesn't work. It is clearly a PayPal link containing your e-mail address, so people can figure it out.
Oof. Yeah. It's basically a custom website for your user. You have to enter in the text you want to display as a username and then it forwards to your account page.
I just checked mine. On my profile page on PayPal was a blue link to create a payme address. It comes out like https://www.paypal.me/user38910
I see your link in my dev environment, now, but I just wanted you to know that the link is wrong. Paypal links don't work with e-mail. They are supposed to contain your username.
A lot of it is just what is offered on a new phone. Most people never change that. I have a Motorola (which I like), but every software update spams me with new apps. But not Nostr apps.
Oh, yeah, we have that on Alex, but I forgot to add it to Imwald. Useful feature.
Yeah, I tried to change my seat on an airline and the website crashed every time. Had to call up and have them do it. 😂
Everything is so fucked up and bullshit.
The fees are really low, at the moment, and the Bitcoin price is depressed. We shouldn't make major protocol situations at the bottom of a dip.
Bitcoin is going up forever, gal.
I was so glad that you said something, fr. I was immediately like Ummm... wtf?!! but I couldn't clearly articulate why it was so disturbing. That really helped.
Nope, not alone. Anyone with a clue is flabbergasted.
When we complained, @npub1q3s…d26p sent Bitcoin to these wallets we didn't ask for. Taunting us to move it. Using trapped money to troll people sort of tells you something significant about that person's character and about how awful this entire scheme is, but okay.
I guess we can all pick a charity to donate to, or something.
Ah, I think there's a loop on the page. 🤔
