Big time bubble vibes. It seems to me that the recent LLM craze will plateau in its advancements, just like every other technology that does not rely on network effects.
Considering smartphones for example, there was a time when each iteration was significant and the benefits of paying for the most recent phone far outweighed the costs. Phone tech seems to have plateaued about ten years ago. The main thing keeping it alive now is planned obsolescence.
Eventually the difference between frontier LLMs and older models will become negligable. Then gradually, the difference between enterprise and open source will do the same. This could be accelerated dramatically by another deepseek drop, but it will happen eventually even without one.
Many business applications of "AI" will continue to require bleeding edge models to compete, but for most applications the bottleneck will return to human capital capable of maximizing the clever utilization of the tech, rather than the tech itself. This can be seen across every technological advancement for hundreds of years.
I'm not sure how long this process will take, but one day the ROI on training new LLMs will run out and the bubble will pop. Many busy-work jobs will be decimated in the process.
