I appreciate your observation of the fractal and I agree that is certainly there.
I’d like to push back on one point that follows from the hypothesis I develop in my book: we must be careful about drawing conclusions about reality exclusively from the mind. Physiologically, the mind can shield us from fully experiencing truth. Accordingly, there are patterns that I think we should be mindful of.
I raise this because I want to challenge your inside/outside framework. The intellectual mind loves to carve reality into binaries: good/bad, up/down, left/right, red/blue, etc. Yet the truth is that these opposites are part of a single whole. The mind always forms a Yin Yang, but there is only One. There may be no definitive ‘me’ or ‘you’ just as there may be no clear inside or outside; everything belongs to one cosmic order, a oneness. Individuality, to me, seems an illusion designed to help us navigate this cosmic flow. This oneness, at different observational scales, simply contains what appears as fractals but is one organization throughout.
Consider biology: we speak of cells as systems, organs as systems, and then the body as a system. What, then, is the body? It is both many systems and one system that is a dissipative structure. So too is the Earth. Our body also includes many bacterial cells. Without them we would be nothing. So what truly distinguishes our biological system to the system of nature? It is all one flow. My point here is that the fractals exists, but only because our mind conceptualizes and creates intellectual separations. It does not conceptualize the whole, only separates parts. Accordingly, in one sense of the word, they are not real. They are akin to a file or trashcan that we see on the monitor’s of our computer, a helpful fiction for us to navigate a world of subatomic particles.
Thus, I’m not convinced there is a distinct “outside” consciousness separate from the “inside” one we have. Rather, the illusion of separation is created by the mind. You, me, and all of us, are facets of the same unified whole, and the mind merely projects duality. So, while this is hard to articulate in a short post. I would posit that this external consciousness that you are referencing is not external at all. It is one aspect of the true Self.
