damn. which desktop environment? kde or gnome? you could try clearing thumbnail cache:
`rm -rf ~/.cache/thumbnails/*`
also try opening the file browser from terminal to see what errors are logged
`nautilus ~/Downloads`
Unfortunately no. I removed around 6 of the latest files but no dice
if this just started happening maybe its one of the later files you dropped in there? `ls -ltr` should list most recent items at the end of the output. try moving the last one or few to a different dir using terminal and see if youre able to open the directory in a file browser after that
I installed Thunar and it had the same behavior! As soon as I double clicked on the folder, it'll automatically close the window
install a different file manager and see if it happens with that one too. what does `ls` in terminal show exists in that directory? maybe theres a file its trying to "preview" but having problems with?
do it for yourself, your family and the ride or dies
Alright #linux pros, I have this weird problem that just started happening. I'm running Debian 12 on my laptop. Whenever I double click on my Downloads folder to view files, the window closes automatically.
I've tried running ClamTK on it and it didn't find anything. I've tried restarting, no dice. Any suggestions?

I am happy to announce NIP-44 v3: a new encryption standard for Nostr that fixes many of the shortcomings of NIP-44 v2.
This fixes the main problem with encryption today, which is that you cannot allow an application to encrypt/decrypt only some kinds.
This opens up users to risks where applications can exfiltrate private information like DMs, even if you just wanted to allow access to modify your encrypted lists.
https://i.nostr.build/y8amvGSoxseSLbDD.png
It also has some other improvements, such as allowing larger encrypted payloads.

No clue. I use a wide variety of tools and tokens. OpenClaw via Z.ai subscription. OpenCode via OpennRouter via Soapbox and Claude Code via Max subscription.
how many tokens are you churning through weekly?
*rolls up sleeves*
Claude, get your fork ready, it's time to eat.
kind of a ho-hum wednesday, huh?

1. Meta workers protest mouse-tracking tool at U.S. offices
-- Meta employees launched an internal protest against mouse-tracking technology planned for U.S. offices, Reuters reported Tuesday.
-- Workplace monitoring tools create privacy and labor-law exposure for employers while giving large platforms another reason to normalize granular user and employee surveillance.
2. Nvidia CEO joins Trump China trip as Beijing summit nears
-- Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was added to President Trump’s China delegation shortly before departure, Bloomberg reported, putting chip policy beside trade and security talks.
-- Direct CEO participation can turn export controls and AI hardware access into deal terms, linking semiconductor supply chains to broader diplomacy with Beijing.
3. India raises gold and silver tariffs to defend rupee
-- India more than doubled import tariffs on gold and silver as authorities try to support the rupee during Middle East war stress, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.
-- Higher bullion duties can curb import demand but risk widening domestic premiums, complicating inflation management while gold trades near $4,689.
4. Sterlingov appeal targets crypto privacy prosecution theory
-- The Rage published an appeal-focused review of Roman Sterlingov’s Bitcoin Fog case, arguing prosecutors criminalized privacy technology rather than proving direct control.
-- The case could shape legal risk for wallet developers, mixers and infrastructure operators by testing how far courts let prosecutors infer custody or intent from blockchain analytics.
i thought i would be happy to be back to work today but i forgot about the long list of projects going on 🫠

ah, i had heard about pi and forgot to make a note to check it out. will do. thanks! 🤝
shill me your favorite opencode plugins, please 😬 #opencode #asknostr
not an opencode plugin but try pi.
advantages:
- it doesn’t use 1GB of RAM
- you can ask it to write plugins for itself
- it’s really simple
- extreme amounts of branching supported with /tree
- no distracting UI
- works with basically anything
- customizable system prompt
- customizable everything
- no subslopagents (unless you add them), making your workflow more efficient
google finally created an official appeal form 😅 not that i love antigravity but its nice to have another option, plus i think/hope they still offer opus 4.6

impressive! have you tried with any local llms or do you need better hardware to attempt that? would be cool to cut all saas (claude) out of the process.
corps do it with fiat. open source needs all of the support it can get and we need so much more of this

Today’s project: a PWA for AI-generated audio summaries of podcasts and articles.
Paste an RSS feed or an article URL. The pipeline transcribes, summarises to 5-10 minutes, and renders the output as an MP3 served in a private RSS feed I can subscribe to from any podcast app.
New episodes from my subscribed shows auto-flow as they publish.
The PWA replaces my podcast app entirely. Library, lock-screen controls, AirPods skip, scrub, bookmarks with notes, an Up Next queue that auto-plays, and a chat window that answers questions about whatever I’m listening to using only the source transcript.
Stack runs entirely on my Mac.
Whisper local for transcription. Kokoro local for TTS. Claude Sonnet 4.6 for summaries via the Claude Code CLI so it bills against my flat Max plan rather than per-token.
Everything served behind Tailscale, just for me.
No SaaS, no per-episode cost, no third party holding the data.
Oh, and I built the whole thing from my phone. 😂

Francisco Calderón (@nprofile…hesm ) is one of the realest cats in Bitcoin.
The Venezuelan🇻🇪 developer, who has 20+ years of experience in the open-source space, could work on anything but focuses his time and effort on @nprofile…nkst , which enables those living countries in crisis (e.g., #Cuba) to access #Bitcoin.
In this, his first interview in English, we discuss:
⚡️ How his experience watching the economic situation in his home country deteriorate informs the work he does
⚡️ How Mostro is built to be used in the harshest and most technologically-unfriendly environments
⚡️ Why Mostro utilized #Nostr
⚡️ What's currently happening in Venezuela
⚡️ Why the open-source future is bright
It was a tremendous honor to speak with Calderón.
This conversation was a strong reminder of not only how powerful freedom tech can be but the fact that it takes sincere, committed people like Calderón to bring this tech to life.
Finally, thank you to the @nprofile…qcqg and @nprofile…aa5u teams for highlighting how the communities with whom you work use Mostro in my recent interviews with you. You inspired me to reach out to Calderón to have this conversation.
Enjoy!

Sorry to the weirdos, consider a vpn
i think many of the devs here are busy using frontier models to ship and don't want to be slowed down with cumbersome hardware/software setups.
i was adamant about creating a local setup but models werent great and i didnt know enough when i started. now i need some more vram to run gemma4 with a reasonable context window. would really like to vibe code on my own hardware. in the meantime i dipped my toes into github copilot, gemini and claude and had fun producing functional apps.
i will get back to my setup and have lately been thinking that a mac could be the easiest solution to my vram issues. not sure if the speed hit will be too much so might try to add abother gpu to my rig.
what do you have cooking in your lab?
Local AI research is fascinating, I find all of it on Twitter and none of it on Nostr

No, that would be way more fun! It’s literally just a countdown timer with an undo button next to it. https://image.nostr.build/52ec3676c46a23d44ed58571b89d2370af31ae6bdd55b46585b555ab1a41cccd.jpg
hows it work? is there a fuse-style animation across the top with an edit button? if the fuse reaches the end your post is launched 🚀
There’s a 10 second undo window after posting.
No, editing isn’t possible on kind 1, despite some clients pretending that it is.
