As someone who's a lot more sober now than I was in the past but not too dogmatic about it...well, idk that I have any good cookie cutter insights to share.
Taking a 100% reprieve has its value for sure if only to let you see where on the spectrum you've been to stop you from lying to yourself and rationalizing (and to reset and consider what your priorities actually are).I would say there's definitely also value in learning to contend with the parts of sobriety that are hard -- sort of like maintaining the ability to talk instead of just being happy to reach for the motorized wheelchair.
But at the end of the day you live by your own scoreboard, not someone else's. "Stop and smell the roses" seems to be a perfectly fine activity -- just maybe don't decide that you live in a rosebush now, because you won't get much done, and those thorns will cause you harm sooner or later.
I do know I'd take 100% sobriety over inebriation 100% of the time. But for now anyway landing somewhere in between is okay with me.
