Yes, Amethyst definitely goes beyond expectation. I'm not sure how I feel about it as to whether that is good or bad. I wasn't joking about situational awareness. You want to learn how nostr stuff works? Spend some time in Amethyst. Veteran Amy users are the best nostr teachers around because of its craziness.
I wish the "daily driver" mentality was a little more lax so people could get comfortable with the idea of hopping around to accomplish whatever it is they are trying to do. Nostr really shines once you can navigate through a personaized snapshot of the ecosystem. Amethyst's early approach to partial kind support was brilliant for encouraging exploration.

Heres another thought experiment that might be more germane.
Suppose I'm a person in the over-regulated New Western Bloc and I want to make a purchase with Bitcoin. But because csam, terrorism etc Western exchanges now require proof of origin of funds.
So the merchant I want to exchange with cannot accept my self-custodied SATs. They need to sell for fiat to buy raw materials and cannot take the risk these funds will be rejected.
Anyway
It seems to me there's a number of different ways it could go, which essentially amounts to sovereign usage being throttled to death.

I only see one on that note, too... over the course of time, I've realized that the relays that I can connect to vary greatly depending on where and how I am connected to the internet. 4g is different from 5g and both are different than my home ips. I can move from my living room to my kitchen to switch from 4g to 5g and see 2 different Nostrs 😅

Even better, we should work any generic DList into search results. I think we would need to augment the Decentralized Lists NIP with a way for the DList Header event to specify how to display list items. Example: a DList of GitHub handles should have an outlink GitHub.com/<handle>. The DList for RSS feeds could readily do something like that.

I haven't seen nearly as much today either and none on my own notes. (🤜🪵) I also don't read from or write to any public relays.
I received a bunch in Amy when this started, though with the same relay setup as I have now. I think blastrs, relay-to-relay streaming, and listeners make these situations much worse. There's no reason I should have gotten spam replied so quickly unless something is hoovering up all my notes as soon as I publish. I've been thinking about that a lot today 😂

Sure. But... Just because that's possible doesn't mean that it shouldn't be figured out.
I didn't say 100%, I'm saying it's a relevant concern not to discount fully. It's why we all benefit from the secondary option of Monero, which theoretically could survive that scenario (assuming hashrate grows further). It's a good complementary option to Bitcoin.

In that scenario, the Bitcoin miners may get seized and the US gov has full control.
In Monero's case, the ASIC resistant PoW algo has an incentive structure that isn't as favorable to large corporations. So hopefully as hashrate increases over time (and hashrate follows price), it's better defended from that scenario. More miners spread out that are harder to shut down.
