i haven't done one yet, but my general process is to ask questions until the problem resolves. eg, what is the blob? who built it? what does it do? where is there documentation? what chips does it touch? is there documentation for those? has anyone written their own driver? has anyone attacked it? how would we write our own? how would we build it? how would we upload it? can we decompile it? etc
llms are surprisingly good at incremental progress and explaining things, so i use many (sometimes hundreds) of iterations to dissolve the problem

I'd love to get rid of blobs for hardware but haven't done anything with LLMs yet.

macbook pro with as much ram as you can justify. if you're putting it on a desk / in a server room, mac studio with the same. it sounds like a fanboy take, but nvidia cards carry a stiff premium right now and are somewhat skimpy on memory, while people keep finding ways to get more out of mac hardware.

Definitely. Even in the case of the Volvo (or Urbit), specialists would still have jobs. But I haven’t met anyone else that was tackling this issue other than them. So I’m excited to follow the project!
