Obama would like to\nrestrict guns, but can't, because they are too popular (in the USA).\n\nThe comparison to BitTorrent is likewise weak: governments hardly care\nabout piracy. They care enough to pass laws occasionally, but not enough to\nput serious effort into enforcement. Wake me up when the USA establishes a\nCopyright Enforcement Administration with the same budget and powers as the\nDEA.\n\nInternet based black markets exist only because governments tolerate them\n(for now). A ban on Tor, Bitcoin or both would send them back to the\npre-2011 state where they were virtually non-existent. Governments tolerate\nthis sort of abuse only because they believe, I think correctly, that\nBitcoin can have great benefits for their ordinary voters and for now are\nwilling to let the tech industry experiment.\n\nBut for that state of affairs to continue, the benefits must actually\nappear. That requires growth.\n\nI think there's a difference between natural growth and the kind of growth\n\u003e that's being proposed by bank-backed start-ups and pro-censorship entities.\n\u003e\n\nWhat difference? Are you saying the people who come to Bitcoin because of a\nstartup are somehow less \"natural\" than other users?\n-------------- next part --------------\nAn HTML attachment was scrubbed...\nURL: \u003chttp://lists.linuxfoundation.org/pipermail/bitcoin-dev/attachments/20150920/52eca066/attachment.html\u003e"}
