Turkyie for example has applied to become a member of EU more than 20 years ago and still not accepted. They know since years that they are not a full member of the empire, and never become one, as long as they keep a significant degree of sovereignity. Maybe they could have become a full member of the west if that coup against Erdogan had success. Not only the pipes through Israel would be a huge loss for Turkyie, but a kurdish state is an existencial threat against Turkyie. The majority of the population of eastern Turkyie is kurdish. A kurdish state could very well mean Turkyie dismantling in the future. One reason that Russia kept its bases, was that Russia supported the banking system of Syria under Jolani that was about to collapse. Russia helped Jolani stabilise his authority in Syria after the Assad regime collapsed. Russia was remarkably quick and efficient, so they keep some presence there that they need for various reasons. It is true that Assad wanted to be accepted again by the rest of the arabs, thinking that he would become \"normal\", but the russians surely prefered Assad instead of the jihadis they were bombarding for years. So yes of course Turkyie is not a friend of Russia, also they wanted to bypass the Montreux convention in order to become able to allow british and US ships in the black sea. But Turkyie is not fully alligned with the west and neither is Israel a NATO protectorate \n\n"}
